I am pleased to announce our latest Crunch Network blog – TechCrunch UK – which launched moments ago.
TechCrunch UK is obviously not a translated blog like TechCrunch France and TechCrunch Japan (although both of these blogs have lots of original content as well). Instead, TechCrunch UK is all about UK based and/or focused startups. Many of these startups are written about on TechCrunch, but quite a few either are too early or aren’t necessarily of interest to the main TechCrunch audience. TechCrunch UK is a place to read about these companies, and I look forward to many of them also eventually being profiled here at the main TechCrunch site.
The blog is being written by Sam Sethi, a London based entrepreneur. You can read more about Sam on the TechCrunch UK About page, here, or on his personal blog. I first met Sam back in May at a TechCrunch event we held in London. We immediately hit it off and have been conspiring to launch this blog ever since. I am honored to have someone of Sam’s caliber write for our network, and I look forward to his posts.
Sam’s already got his announcement post up, as well as news on Piczo (which is doing a UK press tour).
If you would like to subscribe to TechCrunch UK via RSS, the URL is http://feeds.feedburner.com/TechcrunchUK. Alternatively you can subscribe by email on the site. If you have any tips or suggestions, please email or Skype Sam directly. His contact information is on the About page.
I also want to thank our London-based designer, Jeremy Baines, who’s done the design and coding work for TechCrunch UK, as well as CrunchGear. For those of you who’ve asked, we’ll be moving all of our sites over to this new design in the coming weeks.

Mike, are there two of you? Do you ever sleep?
Off topic but Michael, you may want to check out Amazon’s new Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (http://www.amaz...?node=201590011). Just got an email about it.
Congratulations friend!
Same question like Peter..
Onward and upward TechCrunch! Congrats yet again on another great launch Mike – your long hours are paying off. (Hmm…maybe it’s time to take two advil, and get some sleep now!
Thanks Michael. I am really excited. The UK Web and Mobile startup scene has been hiding its light under a virtual bushell for far too long. There are some great UK companies which I hope TCUK can bring to a wider audience.
I suppose there goes tha little old thing called sleep. Well it’s so last century
TechCrunch Uk Rules!!! (I maybe slightly biased)
Congratulations !
I am sick of techcrunch stuff now
Congrats Mike! To anonymous 8 – it’s time you learn to use email.
Best of luck Sam and Michael with the new venture.
Subscribed….
Regards
Fergus
Congratulations Michael, and I really hope this doesn’t have further consequences on your network sites’ content quality. Looking forward for a Spanish version…
Micha, you certainly have a good point there, but I was curious to know how long it would be before they would take my comment out.
This is great stuff! Well, for someone like me in the UK it is.
The Techcrunch empire just keeps growing!
All the best guys! I hope that this version of the site will build the TechCrunch brand into an even greater authority on Web 2.0
Good luck!
Great news – throwing the spotlight on the UK is going to reveal some interesting stuff – particularly in the mobile area. Watch this space.
Anonymous. You have my email and my skype details. I have no issues nor does BT please get your facts right. If you have any issues please contact me directly.
To anonymous 14: Oh, I get it now… So it’s a really a game where you trash someone publicly on a website that is not yours to begin with, without stating who you are and then complain because your comment is taken out. Amazing!
Seriously? What is the point?
I’m British, and while there are some differences in UK and US markets (popularity of Bebo vs MySpace, as an example); it’s really the same market.
Is it necessary? No.
OK, seriously, I think there’s too much to read now! I can’t keep up with everyone anymore. Maybe you’ll limit the number of posts in a given day so I don’t feel like I’m left behind in the dust when missing one day of reading (and that’s a compliment actually).
How about an aggregated feed? My Netvibes main page has no more space left.
Well done Sam, I’ve been subscribed to Vecosys for months. I’ve seen that very strong match between your areas of interest and Techcrunch.
Joe – think about how important TechCrunch has bene to US startups in terms of getting the attention of early adopters and showing themselves off to investors. If TechCrunch UK can do the same thing here then that’s got to be positive right? It’s not just about another blog to read – it’s also about the social capital that its gonna hopefully build
Congratulations.TC is unique place.
Looking at rapid pace of TC growth, I see one day TC may buy Google
how about TechCrunch East Coast? seems like everything on here is all about the Valley or Seattle…
TechCrunch is the new Techcrunch! Congrats Mike.
Uh.. useless?
There are tons of UK-based “web 2.0″ companies that don’t really get the attention they deserved in the Silicon Valley world of Techcrunch.com
Dropsend, Trustedplaces, Crowdstorm, Webkitchen, Heyamigo, Opencage, Citysafe, Soflow, Cominded, and everything at http://www.read...web_20_apps.php , to name a few
Welcome to the party guys. What kept you?
Congratulations, Guvnor! A hearty welcome, Sam.
Look forward to the new feed.
The possibilities are endless for the Crunch network. Here are a few that could really make Mike even bigger than he his now (no pun intended):
XXXCrunch – porn industry startups
MafiaCrunch – organized crime news
FraudCrunch – new ideas for frauds and scams (there might be some overlap here with some of these startups taking millions from VCs without any business model)
(Why does the trackback not show the name “Disappointed by Techcrunch UK, why not Techcrunch Europe” of my posting under crueltobekind above?)
I am highly dissapointed by that approach. There was a chance to get a European audience, but you don’t seem to be interested what has been a trend in Europe for the last 3-4 years.
Well. Most people from the US believe that “!opening an office in Europe” is done by going to the UK (which of course is nonsense in so many regards) that this is not really a surprise. Disappointing, but not that surprising.
I worked together with Sam (who is doing Techcrunch UK) last year, we co-impresario’s a major briefing session for senior UK blue chips on Podcasting, he is a good guy. Good luck, Sam.
(and we’d be happy to provide the research for another session this year plug plug
)
I really wish that you don’t change the design on TechCrunch.com – I’ve grown to like the green!
Great idea, but their RSS feed system completely defeated me. Which means effectively invisible.
Dear Sir, pls fix your comments sections so that all your negative comments are viewable!!!!
Thank u 4 yr time.
(Cross commented from UK site) – Congratulations to both Mike and Sam on this. Sam is one of the ‘good guys’ – a truly smart chap. Look forward to feeding off your stuff.
Congrats – good stuff !
What’s the Point? Seems that you talk about the same site EVERY DAY!
It is always good to have another blog in the Crunch Network, but I’m wondering why you’re expanding so rapidly at a time when one of your blogs (Talk Crunch) hasn’t been updated in over 2 months. That said, if you do another local release, I’d hope it would be covering Israeli start-ups, since it is a major player in the Web 2.0 world. Disproportionately so at that.
How about TechCrunch Global, which covers everything outside the US? (Because, as we all know, you’re either with us or you’re with the terabits.)
UPDATE TALKCRUNCH!
You’re last podcasts on Digg & Flock were brilliant! It was a medium that allowed me a far greater insight to these guys than that of a blog post or traditional magazine article. Why haven’t you continued with it, when it’s pretty obvious you were on a winner?
Great stuff Michael! Just what I wanted to see! Now I have a place to potential mention my own startup when it’s ready.
For those who noticed the little “redesign coming” signpost in this article, you may want to check my blog (click my name) to read the full saga of this year’s TechCrunch redesigns…
This is such a wonderful and informative way to reach others. I Will be more than glad to share this site
We really liked the website .. Thank you.
Play this site, really appreciate it.
This is a one super duper site
I admire you on the willingness to share this info with others – good luck!
Great site guys, please let me know if you are interested in exchanging links with us.
It’s a shame Techcrunch UK has been put on hold. I hope it will be back up and running soon?
