The website www.MYSUMMER.com is a new and fast growing site that is attracting considerable attention. It is a photo uploading and photo sharing experience built aroud the concept that Summer "It's not just a season, it's a state of mind!". As the colder months close in upon us, it's interesting to learn that the MYSUMMER.com website traffic continues to incease. It confirms the fact that people love Summer and enjoy viewing Summer related photos at any point in the year (and perhaps even more so as the temperatures drop!). The MYSUMMER.com site is a very creative and interesting way to visually experience the many fun and exciting outdoor activities people are involved in during their special Summer months. It probably shouldn't be a surprise that Summer has such a universal mystique and appeal to people all aound the world. If you combine the three months of summer in both the Northern and Southern hemisperes, it represents one-half of the year and that's a signficant part of anyone's calendar. That being the case, it's time to say hat's off to those designers and marketer folks at MYSUMMER.com for their fresh and unique approach to the photo sharing category!

[...] It was just announced that DAG Ventures is leading a $15 million B round for Podshow. News got out yesterday and though the investors weren’t named until today, disbelief was the widespread reaction. DAG saw its investment in Grouper, which was presumably much smaller, pay off last month when the video sharing service was acquired by Sony for $65 million. The fund also participated in a $10 million funding in Friendster last month after the company secured a controversial patent. Other investments in the DAG portfolio include SpikeSource and Zimbra.
[...] It’s hard for me to get excited about this in terms of creativity, there’s not much new here - but at a time when AOL is giving so much away, it’s an interesting play to make themselves the dominant download-to-own portal on the web. Competitors MovieLink and Cinemanow both offer rentals as well as purchase, Guba wins on price to own and Sony’s newly acquired Grouper P2P technology may win on speed of download. Amazon has a forthcoming desktop video on demand client as well. But for now at least, if you’re looking to own and it’s selection from major studios you seek, then AOL may be the place to go when these partnerships come online. I’m still waiting for someone to partner with the studios and do something truly innovative, we’ll see how long that wait lasts. AOL [...]

[...] Sony continues to announce cool gadgets but with proprietary means of interconnecting - which in the past was just fine when options were sparse and technology wasn’t as intertwined in users’ daily lives. Most people didn’t have a need to connect their one computer to their tv to their digital camera to their mobile phone. Now there are hundreds of options a customer can consider for almost any given technology gadget - Sony should have been able to forecast this shift and focus away from box making towards service integration. After all, at one point not all that long ago there was a large and loyal base of Sony customers. Why not create a platform for them to communicate not just amongst themselves (which is what Grouper’s acquisition is essentially about) but with the larger as-yet-unconvinced or still-considering community?
