TechCrunch Party At August Capital

ADDITIONAL UPDATE: The RSVP list is now closed and the comments and wiki are locked. There may be additional openings later.

UPDATE: The wiki is overwhelmed and is frustrating people because it is constantly locked. I apologize. I hate wasting people’s time and I can imagine how frustrating it must be to sit there and hit “refresh”. All of those “refreshes” are also crushing our servers. We’ve locked down the wiki. Please RSVP in the comment area on this post and we will add your name to the wiki.

The next TechCrunch Party will be held on Friday, August 18, 2006, in Menlo Park, California.

Unlike previous parties, this one will not be at my house. August Capital has graciously offered the use of their spacious outdoor deck for the party, which is a significantly better venue than my back yard (and will hold more people). We expect 500 or more people to attend.

There will be a bunch of announcements at the party, including some very big surprises, and plenty to eat and drink. We’ll announce more details as the date approaches. Also, a limited number of demo stations will be available for companies to show off their new products.

This is an open party and at least the first 500 people to sign up on the wiki will be admitted. Identification will be checked and your name must be on the list. Please be patient if the wiki is locked down, it just means someone is adding their name to the list.

There are a number of sponsorship opportunities for the party. If you are interested in sponsoring, please email Jeanne Logozzo. Thank you to Soonr, our first confirmed sponsor!

    Awesome, I’m in.

  2. Andrew Fife

    Sounds like fun!

  3. Guk

I’m in! But not 100% sure about being able to come till there. I’ll try though.

Goldarn! I would love to attend, but will be back in wintry Sydney by then. We’ve recently held a Future of Media Summit simultaneously in Sydney/San Francisco — how about a TCParty in multiple locations. Happy to facilitate.

Will be in Palo Alto on Sunday for two weeks — would be great to synch.

Cool, I’m #51! Looks like there was a bit of a Wiki collision, the person right after me got their link caught in my 4:00 AM botched wiki code, and now there is such a rush for the wiki that I can’t get back in and fix it (nor I imagine can they), Eh, I made it, they made it, all is good :)

At August capital all hte parties are cool.
looking forward to meet all of you.

Boy, for being all Web 2.0 and whatnot, there’s got to be a better way to handle singup than sending 500+ people off to try to edit a wiki page at the same time… sheesh… ;-)

  8. John Minnihan

    Hey Mike,

Great idea WRT to the open invitation, but the wiki signup isn’t working so well. I reg’ed and then *watched* as my name (and four others) was edited off the bottom of the list. I suspect you will have many people that get bumped this way; some will will get pretty upset.

I was #121… and then not. Would enjoy seeing you again (beers at the BBC in Melo was too long ago…)

    John

  9. John Minnihan

EDIT Back at #121 after a few edits… go figure.

  10. Joe Hurd

Mike — as always, this will be a blast. I bet your wiki servers are hotter than the weather outside right now… Thanks for hosting, David :)
    Cheers, Joe

  11. Rakesh Agrawal

The trick to the wiki is to have your entry typed up ahead of time… then once you get a lock on the page drop in your entry and save ASAP. Senor wiki could definitely use some improvements in this area. :-)

  12. Jason L. Baptiste

hmmm, Ross Levinsohn is number 3 on the list. Add that in with a bolded statement of a very big announcement being made. Either Ross is a huge fan of Tech Crunch party free beers, or Fox has acquired another startup. Let the rumors begin… I hear it might be theWeblogWire.com. ;-) jk

    -Jason L. Baptiste

  13. George T. Haber

    I am unable for more then 2 H O U R S to sign up….

  14. Zoli Erdos

I’m running a poll on how fast this will sell out.  My bet: 10am (noon the latest).

  15. Pradeep Sethi

Wiki Registration is not working. Have been waiting for about 2 hours. Does posting on the comments count as RSVP.

    :-)

  16. hollyster

It’s no surprise that the WIKI is continously locked. I do see a nice side black market forming.. perhaps a temporal eBay… to the person who has it locked down for 15 min. will sign up the highest 5 bidders. While logistics for a party with readership of this size is well *painful*, I am still glad that Mike opens it up to allow the masses to have a chance at getting in an A-List geek party =)

  17. brian

I’m running a poll on how fast you will sell out. My bet: 7:23am.

  18. Zoli Erdos

    Hi Brian,

Wanna join my poll? See comment# 14 above :-)

  19. Thomas

Does it have to be done through a wiki? There has got to be a better way.

  20. Brian Goler

I’m not able to get past the edit lock either. If anyone else makes it in, would you mind adding my name after yours? Thanks.

  21. Andrei

ditto on the comments that wiki is in constant lock-up mode. I like the suggestion that a comment may serve as an RSVP proxy. ;)

  22. Jessica Hardwick

    F5 x 2 hours = 0

    :-(

  23. sam

    good luck on your party…

after a 2 hour constant refresh trying to get access.. i’ve got work to do!!

wonder what the click/refresh to actual access ratio is!!!

work on your queuing theory guys!!!!!

given your penchant for new tech companies.. what’s with the forcing via a single signup strategy…

although, for some enterprising person, you could offer to add additional people for a fee once you get in..

  24. Bill Katz

Yes, I’m going to give up as well. Gave some thought to writing a bot, but slamming the wiki doesn’t seem to be the right approach to an invite.

  25. Matthew Soldo

Hi. I can’t sign up on the Wiki so I hope you’ll take an RSVP here in the comments. Thanks for hosting the party.

  26. Reg Cheramy

Ya… we’ve got a distributed effort amoung a 1/2 dozen web 2.0 companies. Anyone of us gets in and we all go in.

    :)

Mike, do you LOVE the mayhem you’re causing here? Isn’t there a Web 2.0 company that could offer a better solution than a crazy lock? It’s an interesting way to give everyone a shot though I suppose.

Back to the CMD-R for me.

  27. Jason Korman

Hey Mike, Count Stormhoek in as the second sponsor and we’ll see if Hugh can do a special edition print for the event.

    Jason Korman

  28. Susan Mernit

Going to be out of town, but enjoy!

  29. mb

here’s an idea - if it takes you more than 5 minutes to sign up once you get the lock on the page, you are deemed unworthy and no party for you.

  30. Pradeep Sethi

I was able to add myself to the wiki & I am sure I saw my name at ~198 number, but then I got a database error. Now I am not in the list anymore :(

More than F5s or CTRL-R for me. I am done for now. Will check back in the evening. If anybody gets in and would like to add my name “Pradeep Sethi”, that’d be great!

    Cheers,

  31. Pradeep Sethi

I was able to add myself to the wiki & I am sure I saw my name at ~198 number, but then I got a database error. Now I am not in the list anymore :(

NO more F5s or CTRL-R for me. I am done for now. If anybody gets in and would add my name “Pradeep Sethi”, that’d be great!

    Cheers,

  32. Nick Douglas

Anyone who sends a good tip to tips(at)valleywag(dot)com gets added under me when I sign up for the party.

  33. Andrew Bach

I have not been able to sign up on the Wiki as well… hope you’ll accept an RSVP from here. Thanks.

  34. Dario

    Damn,i’m in Italy,too far…! :( There will be a live from the party ? ;)

  35. David Sachs

Yeah, this whole write-lock thing is frustrating. Makes you start to appreciate database-backed applications. Would like to attend, though.

  36. Chester

No luck here either. If a comment post gets me in, count me in :-)

  37. Johnny Restrepo

uhhhh…..I think I just broke my left button on my mouse pressing edit for the last two hours….

Michael that will be $2 please…(its’s some cheap BenQ mouse)

Hopefully my touchpad works and I get to register….:)

  38. Johnny Restrepo

uhhhh…..I think I just broke my left button on my mouse pressing edit for the last two hours without stopping….

Michael shame on you! That will be $2 please to replace it…(its’s some cheap BenQ mouse)

Hopefully my touchpad works and I get to register….:)

  39. Craig

Man, this is worse than being a walmart greeter LOL

  40. Chester Ng

Hopefully adding a last name might help me get that RSVP.

  41. RBA

Well, I added my name about 5 minutes ago (I was #215) - mind it took me like 10 minutes to get an unlokced page - and I check now and someone deleted my name afterwards. I would like to know who was kind enough to do that.

  42. Ron Hirson

    Looking forward to it.

  43. Bulent Cinarkaya

Please add my name to the list.

  44. Tripp Millican

RSVP. Count me in please. Thanks

  56. RBA

mb, after I got the edit page, I wrote my info, hit “Save” then it took the page about 3 minutes to save it, so just because someone locks the page for 3+ minutes doesn’t mean he/she took that time to edit it.

Then again, after seeing my name there (it was, there was no DB error or anything), as I mentioned in my last comment, the next (or next-next or whatever) person who edited the page was “kind” enough to delete my entry. I really don’t get it why someone would do something like that.

  57. Adam Frey

Please add myself and Dom Bellizzi from Wikispaces to the list. Thanks.

RBA, I got the same issue as you did.

My name was #178. But someone just deleted my name afterwards. It happened twice on me. :(

Here is the revision that has my name on it.
