[...] Loowa, launched earlier this month, is a nice and simple social networking site. At first impression, Loowa seems to be a site similar to Who Are You (TechCrunch’s Review) which allows anyone to associate their email address to basic information and a photo. However, Loowa is much more providing users with a complete and customizable profile. You can look at it as a simplified and cleaned up version of MySpace. [...]

[...] If you had read our post on top 5 European 2.0 sites, one site that you did not see on there was who-r-you. The German-based social email site that allows users to upload images of themselves, so that if another user types in an email address, an image of that person could pop-up. hmmm. If you follow techcrunch, you would have the seen the site had received some “mixed” reviews, and in the comments, there was a barrage of complaints regarding the name of the site, which Michael Arrington responded, by saying that it was “unfortunate”. But what was unfortunate that nothing was said in the initial review about the name. Who-r-you, would be suspect if spelled out in such a manner, however whoryou, looks a little more…vulgar. 40-something comments later, and the point was addressed rather thoroughly.
Who-R-You is a Clone 2.0 of Gravatar with fancier colors, funnier name, and less capabilities. Gravatar already enjoys a relatively wide support thanks to its already working API. Why people waste their energy on cloning instead of creating something new or at least in something significantly different and hopefully better? Also, put yourselves in the shoes of the developers who will have to support all those different APIs, if they manage to survive, of course.

Congrats! Herzlichen Glueckwunsch!

I am happy that Web2.0 from Germany is not dead. I was afraid that the (typical German) negative press killed most of the Web 2.0. Keep up the good work and get some investment to boost your service. It definitely has great potential.

[...] A new start-up from Germany, Who-R-You, is a new very simplified social networking dating community. You simply register, add your e-mail along with your picture, and you’re done. The great thing with Who-R-You is that e-mail addresses and pictures are interconnected, that is, users can search for others via e-mail address to find pictures associated with profiles, making it easy to find friends. In addition, the company is also going to soon launch WEEKENDR. Via ShareThese icons link to social bookmarking sites where readers can share and discover new web pages. [...]

[...] Today it was a nice clear saturday morning in the garden with 25 degrees, lovely sunshine and with a fresh wind coming from the north. I started my MacBook as always and after boot up my MAIL App…. I went off to grab some coffee in the kitchen and when I came back I saw something BIG RED with a 3 digits number on my Mail App Icon …. ?? what? over 384 mails? What the hell is that… I saw that we got over hundrets of mails for weekendr beta sign ups and who-r-you sign ups. woooww… but - why? Well, I dont know why - but my first idea was to look at techcrunch… and I was right. Mike wrote about us and we are very happy about that and to see all the new users on our site. You can read his full post here. [...]
