Great bit of business if you ask me, for me this is that fastest growing social network and could be floated on the open market for double this figure within a year.

[...] What I really don’t get is the plan to build more social networking sites and add one tiny little feature as a differentiator. “Welcome to Bebo, we’re like MySpace with independent music and colleges links.” They must be doing well, as they turned down a $550 MILLION dollar acquisition offer after raising just under $20 million total. I will rarely say something like this, but I hope they end up with less than half their last offer at most. Way too greedy! I don’t care about the MySpace acquisition price, this is absolutely nothing more than a self-propagating bubble which will see a lucky few run away giggling with wads of cash, and a whole bunch of investors and acquirers wondering what the heck they did with their money (well, not their money, all those people whose pension plans have entrusted the funds with creating additional wealth, but thats just a pesky detail). [...]

The whole thing is a total scam. We all knew it from the start. bebo. ringo. bunch of dingos poo. they should be prosecuted for the scam where they their software said "input your yahoo / google / hotmail password so we can spam all your address books, take your personal data, open you MS Money files and generally make like crackers". No one can buy this company, as anyone who did would have to stop doing nasty things like that and the business would collapse. They would also have to remove all the kiddie-self-pr0n, hate speach, defamation and fraud. Basically that appears to be 90% of the site. Its also a share fraud, and, frankly, SEC should act pronto.

The price is just right. Companies like FOX or Viacom will have 25MM users that they can market video, music, ads and movies to. They have their own, dedicated pool of customers.

Assuming that 20% of users are regular buyers, at 25MM this means 5MM regular buyers. Let's say media companies are able to sell and additional $100 / year on entertainment, that equates to an extra $500 MM / year in revenue. Plus, the ad generation on 25MM is HUGE. I think the price is right.

[...] I love meeting new people, and email is a fine way to do it. When a friend sent out a change of address notification to his address book the other day, he accidently put the entire list on the CC line instead of the BCC line, allowing anyone who replied all to mail to the whole list again. Some of us regarded this as a golden opportunity. Others got bent out of shape, and began mailing the whole list asking to be removed from all future replies. Ultimately a futile exercise, I’m afraid, as each replier hit the send button before the request arrived in their inbox. It was quite fun as a whimsical conversation about our collective opportunities to be offered a bebo-like ransom for our companies ensued.
[...] I wish it was true. I’d love to say that we had been offered that much, but unfortunately, no. Michael Arrington cites sources close to the deal, and at first we thought it was BT. But that doesn’t seem to be the case. It’s not implausible, I think, we do about half the page views that MySpace does so you could argue that it’s worth it. The MySpace sale has been called “the deal of the century”. Yes, it would be terrible in the future to be remembered as the man who turned down half a billion. I can see why other news sources believed it [including this one]. Arrington is reliable and must have had what he thought was good information. Why is social networking so popular?
[...] Posted by theworstblogger on 12 Jul 2006 at 05:26 pm | Tagged as: Bad Wow. Techcrunch is reporting that San Francisco based Bebo has turned down in excess of 550M in a buyout offer. Wow. With social networking sites so big, one has to wonder at what point to Blogs (even Terrible Blogs) will will start to morph into a community that would warrant a buyout even in the millions. Are there any blogs that have sold out for this much yet? [...]
