[...] The second TECH cocktail rocked Chicago on October 12 at the Gramercy. TECH cocktail - highlighted previously on TechCrunch - is a quarterly event co-hosted by Eric Olson and Frank Gruber that focuses on better connecting the local technology community. The second event attracted more than 350 guests: a mix of bloggers, podcasters, venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, developers and tech enthusiasts. Vonage founder Jeff Pulver even dropped in from New York for a guest appearance. Photos from the event can be found here. [...]

TECH Cocktail was a truly unique opportunity to meet others in the Chicago area/Midwest who are devoted to the industry. The initial effort was a huge success, and I look forward to the day when this is a regular monthly event rather than a special occasion. Thank you to the organizers!

This was a very well organized and enjoyable event. I really enjoyed meeting local tech enthusiasts and hearing all the original ideas of internet startup companies. I felt like it was 1998 all over again! :o) Thanks again to FJ and the rest of the organizers!

Frank, you're a gentleman, a scholar, a general stand-up guy, and all of a sudden one of the best Chicago tech advocates around. Thank you for throwing TECHcocktail--I appreciated getting to hear about it early and being involved in the first of what I expect to be a continuing series of fantastic events. It was great meeting Eric as well, and as I've said to each of you please let me know if there's anything I can do to help in the future.

Futher on that thought, I'm sure there are lots of other individuals and companies that would be excited to help or at the very least give ideas and feedback. Work with the momentum!

Loved the event. Can't wait until the next one.

[...] I came across Coastr via TechCrunch. It’s a very cool site for those who like to partake in the consumption of beer (which I incidentally do). On the site, you’re able to add, rate, and review any beer, and also any drinking establishment. A great resource, especially if you’re visiting a new city and want to find a proper place to get some refreshment. Here’s what creator Brian Eng has to say about it: Coastr was started last year as an experiment in social networking. It was conceived, designed, programmed, and is maintained by Brian Eng of Luckymonk, and none of it was built while sober. [...]

Frank,
Good times had by all last Thursday. Thanks for the mention here and I can’t wait for future Tech Cocktails.

Tom, just wanted to quickly address your comment above about Naymz.

Ziggs is primarily a (very comprehensive) professional search engine similar to ZoomInfo, but they do also offer a service similar to ours in terms of search engine placement. There are a couple of key differentiators. Our profile page is meant to be a table of contents or collection of your online content (blogs, photo albums, social networking profiles, etc). Ziggs is focused solely on the professional space and allows you to add static content about your career and curriculum vitae within their profile template. We cast a broader net by allowing your Naymz page to about whatever you want it to be. We also allow for customization of the messaging of your search engine listing. You control what your Google/Yahoo/MSN result will say about you (as long as it’s within the search engine guidelines).

We also utilize Google AdWords API so your Google listing will usually appear within a matter of minutes. Ziggs usually takes a day or two. There will be some other cool enhancements we will be rolling out in the next couple months to further differentiate ourselves that we can’t wait to offer to our users.

It’s a great time to be a Chicago based tech company. I think we have a bright and windy future!

Thanks,
Tom

TECHcrunch was awesome! I was there and think there were more then the 225 people who you said registered. The place was packed, I think 275-300 people were present -- the wine was good, the company superb! A big thanks to Frank and Eric for setting this up. I hope we don't have to wait 6 months for the next one -- I'll be there, whenever it is. Too bad to those who missed this first one.

"Naymz is an online identity aggregator... This personal aggregation, or personal Naymz page, will then be optimized for search engine findability for anyone looking to find you via search."

Isn't that pretty much identical - right down to the pricing for the premium service - to what Ziggs (http://www.ziggs.com/) has been doing for a couple of years?

Thanks for setting it up, Frank, Eric and whoever else.
