Contrary to the post title, ActiveCollab is not free anymore. Basecamp has nothing to fear - at least not the pricing. And I think it is not a bad thing. I like Basecamp to have competition to keep them innovating. And I like new initiatives that start out free. People should be paid for valuable applications they create. The model when an upstart provides appliction for free, until it is mature and its value is proven makes sense to me.
