[...] From The Rugs Don’t Work: Over the past week, the blogging community (Robert Scoble, Jason Calacanis, Michael Arrington, Matthew Ingram, Valleywag, et al) has been “booming” over the drama surrounding Amanda Congdon’s departure from Rocketboom. In fact, unofficial lip-reading sources say that World Cup participants Zinedine Zidane and Marco Materazzi were chatting about it prior to the now famous headbutt at the World Cup Final. I’ve decided to join the fray by dedicating Volume 3 of the Over In About An Hour mixtape series to Amanada and Andrew Baron. The playlist titles capture some of the back and forth of the past few weeks. All the tracks can be found on Yahoo Music Unlimited. [...]

[...] Quick catchup here: last week Amanda from RocketBoom (yes, it is okay to be wondering ‘uh, who’s that’ right now, as the majority of people have no idea what I’m talking about already, but a few thousand folks are already waiting for me to skip to the chase) got fired (here’s her account of the story and here’s some of his). She was quickly replaced (very funny link), but then her replacement was sacked too. Apparently they were supposed to relaunch this week. It’s been a big topic of discussion for a lot of people, but I don’t get it. This guy watched daily, and I guess it was probably somewhat entertaining, but here’s the thing I don’t get: [...]

[...] The “celebrity” case of the night was by Andrew Baron of Rocketboom. I don’t really care that much about that entire saga. You can read about it here and here and just about anywhere. What I did take away from Andrew’s talk is that sex sells, and not just in traditional media, but web 2.0 too. I suppose this isn’t that big a revelation (you might be thinking “duh, Malgosia”), but I had this strange hopeful illusion that user-generated content in our little web 2.0 world was more about using new technology to help give everyone a voice, not just putting a pretty face/body in front of us to get us to gawk.
Amanda left... as long as there is better looking chick in front of the screen with some acting skills I think whether her name is Amanda Congdon or not would not really matter, after all it is male techie audience mostly watching it. Or you guyz really think that the shows are incredibly interesting???

At tonights CaseCamp in Toronto instead of giving a presentation Andrew told the group his side of the story and explained the challenges of the situation and some of his ideas about moving forward. I am pretty confident that Rocketboom will be better then ever. I shot a video with my digital camera but the sound in the first 60 seconds is weird. I will try to fix that and repost. Check out the video.

Here’s a tricky question: how do you know you’ve come to a party too late?

They way I "read" Amandas video, after seeing Andrews message was:

Amanda: "I'm, like, WAY famous now. I could be famouser if I were in LA, shmoozing with the other famouses. Lets go!"
Andrew: "How can we just up and move to LA. We need a plan."
Amanda: "We gotta go now. My stardom awaits! I'm getting oooold."
Andrew: "Umm, I don't think that's fair. Let's just..."
Amanda: "Well you obviously don't want to be my partner any more. KTHXBAI!"

I don't mean to to put words into their mouths. That's just how it came across to me.

Amanda: “Well you obviously don’t want to be my partner any more. KTHXBAI!”

I don’t mean to to put words into their mouths. That’s just how it came across to me.

$40,000 per week? Why has she moved into her parents house, then? Why would Andrew be saying, "Okay, see ya!" when it's obvious she is the driving force behind the site?

It doesn't make any sense.

Did RB regularly have $40K a week in ads, or did RB sell one week of ads for $40K?

I haven't seen any ads on RB since the week of those lame ATM ads they did.

My guess is both of their 15 minutes of fame just ended. Amanda was quirky and cute, but the schtick was getting old. Andrew may or may not be able to recognize the talent necessary to replace her. Did Andrew "luck" into her, or did he spot what made Amanda appealing and can do it again?
