New Look, New Name For Gada.be

Tag metasearch engine Gada.be (TechCrunch posts describing the service are here) is getting a name change and a redesign at the Gnomedex conference in Seattle later this week (Chris Pirillo founded the company and also runs the conference).
The new service will be called TagJag (and will be at TagJag.com). Like Gada.be, TagJag can be queried easily from a mobile device.
Gada.be launched in October and, according to the company, serves about 30,000 daily queries. See more about it in the About section of the site.
The new site will go live next week - screen shots of the new TagJag are below.

Very cool, looks way better than the plain Gada.be interface.
Agreed John, Gada.be needed a nicer look right from the beginning. And the new name sounds like a winner!
I like it a lot, but that head icon at the bottom has got to go! It makes it look really unprofessional!
That seems to be a huge improvement for them in terms of layout and usability.
It’s a clever name too, and easily written with only 6 key-presses on a cell phone.
Looks like a huge improvement; I’ve actually been trying to use it more recently, but have found the UI frustrating. Let’s not forget that they also have some competition in this space, from which their new name does little to distinguish them (e.g. TagFetch, TagGround, Gnosh, etc).
I won’t use anything from Chris Pirillo. I just can’t stomach his ego that knows no bounds. It’s sad because he’s come up with some decent blogs, etc over the years, but he is such an incredibly annoying person that I have just chosen to pass on anything with his name on it.
I concur with Jason. Hooray!
Mike - when you first hit the page, does the TagJag text appear in that field in the upper-left corner?
if so, talk about an interesting way to brand a site. combining the main functionality and the brand together - very interesting. Can’t wait to see it live.
Chris mentioned during my interview at the Opera 9 launch that a name change was coming, I have to say I like it!
I tried typing TagJag.com in the address window of my Firefox browser
and it went to http://tagjag.com/apache2-default/
which simply says
“Web Server 2″
Guess it’s not up yet? I know it’s supposed to be aimed at mobile devices but there should be functionality for any browser, right?
Good luck anyway, you guys snagged a great short domain name.
Oh duh.. it goes live next week…
Yet another reason to invest/pay for professional design services. That’s a world of difference between the two sites.
good design =)
We’re hoping to have (at least) the domain working by next week - might take a bit longer to get the design tweaked to perfection, but we’re working on it. Oh, and to the trolls known as Jason & Biff: I’m happy we got that straightened out, as I’ve been wanting to say that I’m alergic to users named either “Jason” or “Biff.” As long as we avoid each other, life should be mutually happy!
Jason/Biff, don’t be haters. How about you dedicate your time and effort and do as half as much as Chris does, then you can complain.
evan- yeah, it does. The “logo” is prefilled text in the search box, which is awesome. I’ve never seen that before.
Very nice software! Good Job!
there needs to be a setting that only shows results that are mobile-friendly. I’ve had numerous problems with gada.be when I search it from my phone (treo 650) and then get results that don’t render well in the default browser.
Talk about one bad name to another…certainly the service looks a lot nicer than it was but what is it with Chris and crappy names?
I agree with Paul.. Chris’s sites are garbage. This site offers nothing new, and there are dozens of tag searching sites on the net.
Dozens and dozens of people all over the world are rejoicing!
The previous interface was really ugly on normal monitors, and practical on mobile devices, so this update is most welcome, IMHO.
Will gada.be still be running as it currently is?
I actually really like that site for it’s simple design and quick loading. There’s no need for flashy design on such a site. TagJag looks good admittedly but I still like gada.be more.
Neither Jason or Biff were being haters. Both stating or shared opinions about Chris Pirillo– rightly so. No flaming, no cursing, no insults. Just an opinion about the guy who runs the company. I agree with them. Chris needs a serious attitude adjustment. It seeps into everything he touches and fouls it all up.
TagJag? Dumb name. I prefer Gada.be, although the new redesign is a huge improvement. Will I use it? No. Honestly. And not because of Chris being a part of it. It’s just nothing I’ll ever remember to use. Pretty much like the huge majority of Web 2.0 app sites out there. Only the cream floats.
web 2.0 scraper?
Google thinks so and gada.be is already banned
http://www.google.com/search?h.....te:gade.be
Your search - site:gade.be - did not match any documents.
um …………try spelling it correctly……
http://www.google.com/search?h.....tnG=Search
gada.be not gade.be
get your facts straight before you look like a moron.
maybe it’s just me, but these web2.0 sites are getting uglier and uglier. i expect to see a site with puke green and purple text in the not too distant future.
I really can’t tell what the heck this site actually does.
