[...] A company called BitWine launched an interactive search site about three weeks ago. It is much like Ether in that it is a call-an-expert service, except BitWine is integrated with Skype. In fact BitWine will be a Skype plugin when Skype 3.0 launches, which will likely be in early 2007. [...]

[...] Stepping back a step further, both Wengo Visio and Wengo Phone are part of their long term plan of building a pay-per-call expert network, Wengo, where people can sell their time on the phone via PayPal or credit card. This may sound a lot like Ether, sans the 1-800 number, and it is very similar. Wengo, however, has opted to build their offering around their own Wengo community site, where users have categorized themselves, received ratings, and posted profiles. Ether has opted for a different strategy by relying on users to promote services on their own. [...]

[...] A new web start-up, Ether, allows people to charge money for advice they give on the phone. TechCrunch reviewed the launch of Ether and had mostly nice things to say about it but noted that concerns were raised about the quality of services that might be sold. I would think that a customer rating system could play the same role on Ether as it does on Ebay. “Could” is the word. It will be interesting to see how many people are really willing to pay for intangible services on the internet, as opposed to hard, tangible items. Permalink TrackBack [...]

[...] Ether officially launched at Supernova. They’ve created an “ebay for services” that allows people who wish to sell their time on the phone to do so. Place an Ether logo on your site - when someone clicks on it they can set up a time to speak with you according to the terms you’ve set (price, time of call, etc.). When your phone rings, there is a person on the other end who has already given their credit card information and is looking for your advice. Ether went into beta in March, and we covered the official launch here. [...]
