The Kingston, Jamaica based Vibesnetwork officially launched today its newest online social networking service - Smutvibes. (Warning: this site is full of very naked people.) VibesNetwork CEO and President Delroy Frazer says that Smutvibes will give many adult users what they want out of a social networking service, a place to have uncensored conversations about sex, and will create a separate space for those conversations outside of teen-filled social networking sites elsewhere.
This system has got all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a social networking service, VOIP excluded perhaps. Photo upload, private chat, blogs, commenting and more. There’s also an events board that looks like its getting good use. I’ve already tested out all the features with photos of myself under a pseudonym and I’ve met a lot of really great people. Just kidding.
The real pull is likely to be the fact that explicit photos aren’t pulled - they’re encouraged. The system’s familiarity and censorship free policy could really appeal to a portion of MySpace’s now 75 million users.
How will teens be kept safe from SmutVibes? Laughably perhaps, registration is not allowed for those who provide a birth date indicating that they are less than 18 years old. Hmmm…don’t think that’s going to be enough.
Membership is free and I can imagine ad revenue is a real possibility. See also the company’s partner site, Christianvibes.com.

SmutVibes.com and ChristianVibes.com are from the same company? The mind boggles…
Not too many Christians would sign up for ChristianVibes if they knew this.
hahaha. I adore such blatantly incongruous business practices.
After all, who cares what the users on each site think about each other?
Funny partner site, Christian vibes. I bet there’s a lot of collaborating between the two partners.
Good grief…. pass me a bucket, I’m feeling ill! LOL
These days it seems that there is no human activity that business can’t make a buck from or that technology can’t support. Interesting time ahead eh =;-)
Hello my new friend my name is Rita i will like us to be friends
of good and not of evil you can mail me and tell me of yourself my
mail is . rita4love66@yahoo.com . i will send you my pic next mail
have a nice day
Rita.
This is a joke, right? Imagine the lawsuit if someone posts a naked image of an ex-girlfriend. The fact that the entire site is open to the public is insane. Who in their right mind, even if they are a hardcore swinger and exhibitionist, will post on this site..and give a personal profile? There are some concepts that just do not work with a “social network”….promiscuous sex being one.
What’s next? The ” I’m gay but still in the closet” social network.
Its less social networking and more porn. I wonder why’d you even review it on a technology/web 2.0 blog.
Love it…
Just posted some pictures of me in my cameo codpiece???…
nice…it’s gonna be massive…
Might cutt a little into AFF’s a billion dollars a year revenue stream. If that company was mainstream it would be public and worth tens of billions.
Ummm…. What is up with this post? Why does it read like a rewritten press release? Why is the statement “Smutvibes delivers good functionality” offered without any kind of comment on said “good functionality?” “Smutvibes is an interesting entry”–how? why?
But the worst part of this noncritical, bland, pointless PR offering is the statement “How will teens be kept safe from SmutVibes? Registration is not allowed for those who provide a birth date indicating that they are less than 18 years old.” How can you possibly present that statement and not even offer a single comment on it? What the hell is going on here? It’s like TechCrunch has fallen into the Twilight Zone.
….$5 says the first lawsuit(s) will be filed within 6 months.

I’m sure they will have some statement about making sure you have rights to the pictures.
Also this is already done on many other website… every check out craiglist. Hundrends of people are fake or pic collectors etc etc.
I like the idea since its free… I admit it i tried AFF and its a total joke, every profile is fake its a rip off.
This site will very quickly end up filled with professionals acting as amateurs just like AFF and every other site like it - who cares/who wants another site like this?
Yeah, it’s quite disturbing how accessable this is. And about the 18 year old age limit? Kids aren’t stupid, they’re not going to put down their real age (look at MySpace). Child porn here we come… dear god help us.
Jamaica based? No thanks
Why was this even posted? This is Web 2.0? There are thousands of these sites out there already.
James, this site looks so much like MySpace that I’d say it’s totally smut 2.0. Plus I thought the ChristianVibes connection was funny.
Like it or not, people are going to jump on the social networking site bandwagon, so be prepared for plenty more strange community sites
Tech Crunch can’t afford to pay a writer to do research so instead they collect money from people who would like their stupid website published in TechCrunch’s (also stupid) articles.
I have already wasted too much time with the reading and commenting of this SSSOOOO lame TechCrunch.com website.
GOTO HELL TECHCRUNCH, thanks for being lazy and uninformative.
Realist, that’s not at all the case. In watching new launches in the Web 2.0 space, we found this one interesting (and humorous) enough to write the short post above. I’m sorry that you disagree and I hope you will find other articles here more informative. TechCrunch never accepts payment for coverage, of course.
Oh come on .. TechCrunch may not accept payment, but you know you’ll gain a lot of eyeballs simply because the article involves scantily clad (or unclad) women. The web is full of this sort of thing and it really doesn’t have much relevance to web site such as TechCrunch.
yeah it seems like advertising for this kind of site should be below you. there is enough good stuff out there that you don’t need to post smut.
I think y’all need to chill out is what I think. It was one post amongst many, about a niche social networking site that just launched using tools like profiles, blogs, chat, etc. Censorship and sexuality on other social networking sites have been discussed a lot and it’s funny that the same people behind this do a christian social network! Sheesh.
Gee…y’all should take a chill pill and chill… It’s just a nother social site…no biggy….only difference that I can see off the bat is that this site enecourages u to post nudy pix while myspace does not…
The web is like a bookstore….we all have our favorite section.
On another topic…will TC cover my social project when it launches…? We all have social..community…blogging…thnigamajig ideas pumping in our viens at this point…y? Cuz that is what currenlty pays the bills!!!
Hmm
Nope, I dont like this one either. I dont think that this is the kind of stuff that TechCrunchers are looking to read. I mean, i appreciate the humor in the connection between the two websites, but I dont come to TechCrunch to read this kinda stuff.
I’ve been a daily reader for the last 368 (give or take) days. Alot of the websites presented here have given me inspiration for my own website(s). I hope that these types of websites are not going to become regular news around here.
Anyways, I’m sure you guys arent going ruin TechCrunch… so keep up the good work.
I love how one of the guys featured on the front page of their “sister site” has an avatar depicting a guy with 666 on his forehead. They’ve clearly cornered their target market.
TALK about sex??? TALK?
Talking about sex is like dancing about architecture.
You heard it here first
ManFmNantucket
This looks like the end for TechCrunch. There isn’t anything better to report on?
And Marshall, I presume that you’ve tested the service for us? How did you find it? Any… “aggregation” happen?
Boy their is a lot of conservative people on this blog… take the stick out of your ass all of you and stop putting Tech Crutch down.
Don’t want to use Smutvibe then don’t. Afraid of kids getting to it, trust me there other plenty of ways they can get to it. Why don’t you go bitch at AOL, they are the biggest problematic service that gives access to dangerous people.
Now you’ll understand why most people should keep their clothes on.
Wow… Sheesh… Seems like everyone who reads Techcrunch also has an account on Christian Vibes! Please calm down people.
I for one enjoyed reading about it. Not that I am rushing to sign up or anything, but it was a pleasant change from all regular Web 2.0 stuff.
A number of things are unnerving:
1. Why is that with every new networking site themes are becoming more and more brutish?
Why are we forgetting we are ‘homo sapiens’ — the Thinking kind, not just the one with basic needs.
Where did the poetry, art go? Ah, dah, simple — poetry generates less clicks, and, as such, less $$$.
How come less and less people strive for sublime even at the expense of making less, and more and more offer porno?
Is $$$ and porno all that is to come to define the net and, as such, us?
2. Why did this appear at TechChrunch?
To educate us of what? Of how web 2.0. can help create more lechery? What a news.
We all grew to respect Michael and TC for integrity, for consistent delivery of relevant news and info; rain or snow, posts have been coming, each with reliable high quality. He has been a great educational resource for all of us.
With the audience of 80,000 readers (increased by 17,000 readers or by 25-30%!! within 3 days), Michael has been taking more and more responsibility — it is not funny any more — 80,000 people get influenced every day by what he (and/or his co-authors) post.
With every post Michael has a power to make us a bit better or a bit worse. And, yes, we are to form our own opinions, and make our choices.
Well, there is certainly enough of a fleet in 80,000… and if led irresponsibly, irresponsibility will follow.
3. Robert Scoble posted today that “Someone at VLoggerCon said “individuals are now in charge” of what’s important in the world”.
It is actually scaring. History has numerous examples of sick individuals “in charge” (Hitler, Stalin, Bin Laden) who led fleets to wars, violence, genocide. We would only hope the smutvibes and alikes will not get to lead the web. MySpace does lead the web already (#6 in page views.)
How can we insure that those kinds of sites and/or sick ‘individuals in charge” do not come to rule the net? How can we insure and strive for some level of purity?
My answer is to start from keeping our own posts clean, one by one, day after day.
@Natasha:
Were you in some abstract political club in your college days? If you were, you need to shake it off. It’s grown on you…
No offense meant, but couldn’t resist taking a crack at that one.
@Mike:
If you are aiming to profile *all* Web 2.0 companies, that’s fine by me. Hey I even applaud and cheer your effort. But how about a little restraint? Smutvibes is so obviously not in the league of companies to be profiled. Well, at least not in such a hurry. There are plenty-of-fish in the sea that you are, well, fishing.
Try to go for the simpler schools, Mike, like Porpoises or Dolphins. The Sharks of the Web can really give you a massive heart-attack sometimes.
All said and done, keep up the good work at TC.
Regards,
Shri,
@Shri –
Nah, abstracts and politics are not my thing.
Thanks for the smile, though.
@Michael –
Yes, please keep up the great work and quality of TC.
Thank you
Gees, you people bitching about Marshall and TC posting about this website are a bunch of pudes. Aren’t you folks adults for godsakes!! It sounds like you folks have too much time on your hands. I definitely think there are things of more importance that you folks should be protesting. Of course there are websites that aren’t for everybody. So, don’t go to them!!
@Natasha:
My pleasure, Madame. Glad to know you are not offended!
@Chad:
“He point, he shoots, he Scores! Chad has just driven home the point!”
It is not about visiting a particular website or abstaining from it. TC has been profiling Web 2.0 like no one else. And when something like Smutvibes gets profiled, it is bound to raise a few eyebrows, like they say, it takes a five different fingers to make a hand.
And I have just shown you my finger (pun unintended), my side of the argument, that is
And, absolutely no offense meant!
Regards,
Shri.
Its not actually true, they allow nude photos, but they do not allow certain types of nude photos…I have a photo of me naked and they did not approve it..
Who care’s really. I think it’s another example of Web 2.0 changing another field of the internet. If these people (over 18’s) want to post naked pics and chat to each other about sex. Why do we care? You either go to the site or not. The only real problem i see is the age verfication system. Apart from that live and let live is what i say.
I agree with you bill! These people are acting as though they are any holier than anyone else, I guess thats why they created christianvibes.com - now you have a choice.
you know.its really simple if you dont like something you see there is a off button.and i know alot that know how to use it.not everyone likes everything they see and not everyone likes religion shoved down their throats either.so what people meet and discuss sex is that a crime?????? whats between consenting adults on the net should be their business.when they go over the line and let their impulses carry them away to where they are contacting minors that is where the problems begin.this world has become ruled by so many rules theres no freedom left anymore.you cant have prayer in school you cant say merry christmas without some holy than thou screaming foul .whats next how about we tax the air we breathe then we will have something to really foam at the mouth about.if you dont like something you see for crying out loud shut it off or walk away noone forces you to look at anything.they have blocking software for christ sakes use it. its that simple.and the parents that just let their children roam all over the internet unsupervised are at fault for what their children see not the internet. you let your child have a computer in their bedroom with internet hooked to it then what do you think is gonna happen.am married and have 4 girls and 3 boys and none of them had a pc in their bedrooms they used the family computer which sits located in the living room for all to see.so these ones screaming lawsuit cause their child sees something.i ask ya where the hell are you when they are on the computer. you just give them the computer to keep them happy and out of your face so they leave you alone then scream bloody murder when they see something well duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…..
bravo
Exhale Of This World
As children we are taught ancient histories of sages giving strength and hope to followers of the Tribe.
Hope that humans will work together and survive….
Through;
Hardship, Challenges, and Pain….
We keep hope alive to out last the pouring Rain.
Is knowledge a tool of human creation ?..?..?
To simply be aware of knowledge and it’s uses…
-Comfort,
- P o w e r,
- Reliability,
-Control
It stimulates us to “want” …
-To Change,
- T o F i x,
- To Strengthen
- To Control
When we acknowledge our purpose,
We admit that we control existence.
Is the creation of existence considered only allowed by GOD?.
If I am a God,
Then please Curse Me.
For I suck hope from the sheep that Wander.
I swallow their hope, and feed them still.
Knowing all survival depends on the fresh meat, of happy will.
Eat of my Pastures, Drink of my Streams-
Absorb the exhale of my creation
For it exists also in your dreams.
To Dream the same Dream, Is a paradox of acceptance.
For who then controls the dirty shit that follows?
To Eat, Consume and Grow Excitement is a Guarantee,
Being used again and again called Antiques is far beyond me
I ask your forgiveness Dear World,
for what I am about to start.
I care not that my clear exhale
may tear this world apart.
I offer my voice to the many sheep that may follow,
For If you share your tiny whisper, you will see that I am quite hollow.
Well it appears to have gone ofline.
No, it has not - I doubt it will anytime soon
D’oh people!
How would you feel if you suddenly found your most conservatively religious friend beside you in a cabaret, leering at the stripper? Well, the analogy is a little exaggerated, but it works…
I have absolutely no qualms with the existence of the site. My thoughts were on the lines of Mike Arrington & Techcrunch REVIEWING it.
I respect Mike and whatever TC has done until now, but thet does NOT mean he has to review all Web 2.0 crap that comes along!! And even if he did, he should have filed it under Adult. Sometime you have to give the darker alleys of Web 2.0 a miss, so that you can explore the brighter side of things.
But then that is my personal opinion. It doesn’t count.
Regards
Shri.
no big shock… The people who bring you BigChurch (Christian dating site) also bring you AdultFriendFinder…?!
Sex sells and it’s not going going away anytime soon. People will always want it, talk about, you name it.
hi!
i have a good audio systems on my website http://car-audio.org.md
hi …… whats new with smutvibes.com ?????????///
mmmmmm… the site is down…
No, the site is not down, its up.
Smutvibes is down, has been for a while, will it ever return? i have friends on there and only on there so i have no other way of connectin with them :0(
Where else a good little Bad Girl like me get a chance to open up.
And expose my self in a country that i live in, I can get murdered
for what i am doing even by my own close relatives. Keep it up.
Thank you
I Love this site .
I think it’s down now, i haven’t been able to get in the last few days anyway, it just won’t load. Anyone knows whats going on? If it’s a maintenance thing it sure takes long, and it is a bit funny that they didn’t give their member a waring i think.
It is a fun site though, if you can get passed the fact that 75 percent of the people on it aren’t who they say they are in rl. It’s time for a photo verification system if they’ll ever get back online, haha
