TagWorld Widgets Platform
by Michael Arrington on June 2, 2006

Los Angeles based TagWorld, a social network with nearly 2 million members that is funded by Draper Fisher Jurvetson, is launching a Flash widget platform on Friday at TagWorldWidgets.com.

TagWorld Widgets is an open platform and they are inviting developers in to build on top of the thirty or so widgets available now. The developer site is here. The widgets are usable on any website, and TagWorld is heavily promoting the use of the widgets on competing social networks like Myspace.

There are a couple of innovations that make this a more interesting solution than what is already offered by BunchBall and others (BunchBall profile here). Widgets have customizable properties that allow website publishers to personalize them. Things like colors, fonts, speed, etc. can be customized after integration on the website and without going back to the TagWorld site.

I’ve written about TagWorld a number of time since launch - see the posts here.

These widgets look really cool.

Tagworld should surely take over myspace, mainly because they seem to be having a lot of elements, which they can easily turn into money making machines. Just about time.

Btw, your link to tagworldwidgets.com is broken.

Cheers,
Pratik

does this mean they’ve given in…
if you can’t beat ‘em join em…???

I like the idea, pushing Tagworld content onto Myspace to entice people over. Unfortunately these games are godawful. I just wish there was a convenient ‘Browse’ feature on Tagworld, so that I could find out which of my friends in my town are on it, instead of searching each individual name and wasting a whole bunch of time. Until then my profile will collect friendless dust.

nice work guys…widgets are becoming increasingly popular and provide valuable information in intuitive and customizable environments. providing them in a dev environment is the way to go.

in response to 2. Colin, its called co-opition and means they aren’t scared of the 800lb. gorilla.

or co-opitition…whatever.

They have a spectacular flash lava widget you can customize in Minutes

I doubt tagworld will take over myspace there is something called “network effect” in these businesess.
coche!

i hope nobody steals my “original” idea for a google adsense myspace ad widget* ;))

Billy,

Do you mean an ad widget for MySpace? If so, that’s against the TOS (we don’t even know how they’ll take to MyPickList et al).

Very cool - can’t wait to see where they go with this. One thing I would like to note is that Bunchball widgets allow your page visitors to interact with you and with each other, which the current selection of Tagworld widgets don’t. You can also customize several aspects of Bunchball widgets - size and color for all of them, and other settings depending on the widget.

The fusion of widget’s concept and social network it’s a very very cool Idea for enrich the personal website experience and relationed information in a social network.
