[...] I heard about the conference at the Seattle TechCrunch Party (what was I doing in Seattle at this event - thats another story). Mike Arrington got up at the party to hold court. He saw Chris Pirillo in the crowd and told everybody that Gnomedex 5.0 was the best conference he had ever been too. That was enough incentive for me. Of course I never got around to booking the conference until it was sold out. I ended up buying a main room ticket via Craigslist from Dylan Greene though. He couldn’t make it - his loss my gain - thanks Dylan (at least he got his money back). [...]

Can you offer advice for planning and executing a website-originated physical party? I would like to do one for a locally-focused website http://www.idahofallz.com. Since it's focused on a geographic area (the city of Idaho Falls), attendees won't have to travel far.

However, we have little to no budget. What kind of things do you do? How to make it fun, and earn some press for unique events?

Had a good time, and a big thanks to the sponsors for the free event, beer and pizza.

One piece of advice for the next sponsors: Don't leave Windows Messenger running on your demo machine.

The Seattle party was a blast! Besides being about 300 degrees inside the venue, I've got nothing but wonderful things to say. I met some really interesting, amazingly smart people. Most of all, thank you to the sponsors for providing the free beer and pizza. I haven't pumped a keg since college (I think.)
