Bloglines is my reader of (online) choice. I have used the search functionality, and I like the + next to each result. Also I like bloglines because the online response time is by far faster than any other i jave tried.

[...] Algorithm::The factor which decides the accuracy of a search engine is it’s search algorithm. Pre-Google era saw many varied algorithms, most of which sucked. Google introduced Page Rank and it caught on. However the blog search engines all rank a definitive algorithm. Why do I say this? Not even one could give me proper results/results which I wanted and I searched a lot. As Mike Arrington says, it’s time Blog Search Engines evolved with a brand new and powerful algorithm. I have an idea, but more on that later. [...]

I wonder if Bloglines analyzes the inbound/outbound links based on group or type. For example, if Mike Arrington wrote a political blog (Arrington - Do NOT do this, ;-)), and lots of political blogs linked back to that particular article, TechCrunch would get higher authority.

In order to group a blog, I suppose it would use average content over a certain period of time. If a blog has lots of "web 2.0" and "entrepreneur" tags, then it must have higher authority in business and technology. If a blog has lots of "global warming", "democrat", and "republican" tags, then it must be more political. Theoretically, a blog could morph over time, which seems more than reasonable since that's how it typically is.

[...] First, the story that is causing the most buzz is Ask.com launching their new Blogs & Feeds Search as well as the launch of blog searching in their popular feed reader, Bloglines. TechCrunch has got the scoop on both launches and overall seems impressed, although you can’t say the same for Steve Rubel who’s not impressed with the new search functionality. The two use the same engine to produce results, although each remain in their own interface and each having some extra functionality relating to the audience (ie: Bloglines Search has subscription options and special filters). That's about all we say publicly on ExpertRank (formerly known as Teoma), but here is a link to some good (somewhat more technical) background information published outside of Ask.com.

[...] This morning I’ve been reviewing the new Ask blog search that I’ve been reading about the last 12 hours or so. It passed the blog vanity test where I put in my name and saw that it could find the blogs I currently contribute to and maintain. It even found the spreadfirefox blog that I’ve only posted to a few times.
