This is just for fun, although it’s also a nice demonstration of multi-user Ajax. If you like the old Milton Bradley Battelship game, you’ll enjoy spending a few minutes on SinkMyShip, an online Ajax version of the game. It’s free, no registration is required (just pick a username for the session) and you can find an opponent in the game lobby. A chat function allows for constant heckling.
There’s not much to review, except to say that it works, it’s very well designed and it’s fun (compare to this javascript version of Battleship). Thanks Brian for finding this.

As an old game developer, this is something for me
Nice looking. Worth a good 3 minutes of anyones time
Seemed really clunky during our test, a lot of delays, didn’t make it worth playing a round.
Revenue model? Exit Strategy?
Luv this one..

Not working at the moment, website isn’t responding.
Site is TechCrunched for the moment, wait ’til they’ve got VC money for some load balancing servers. But how long until GoogleMyShip sinks this one?
Ut oh. What’d we do, Arrington
. Always manage to bring these Ajax apps to their knees (remember ajchat? hehe). Thanks for the link back.
digg it here: http://www.digg...ax_=_SinkMyShip
This is so great. Brings back great memories. In about 1994 or 1995 I wrote a program in Turbo Pascal that would allow two players to play BattleShip across an AppleTalk network. I remember I integrated a feature where once per game you could shoot a “Clusterbomb” at your opponent which blasted about 5 random squares near where you chose to shoot it.
How times have changed.
you sunk their battleship….
Its a little clunky… it didn’t registar all my moves for some reason… I even clicked on a spot twice, just for it not to work twice.
Good idea though.
It would be fun to setup a TC tourny and see who has the skillz to pay the billz.
Tournaments are in the list of future features. Also we’re planning to implement 3+ user games. That’s if users pour in as much as before. The original digg is http://digg.com...ultiplayer_game
Thank you all kind people, we hit 4000+ users today alone. If that continues we might invest in better hosting. Who knows.
Not keen on it – never seem to be able to “keep” an opponent for more than two moves before they bugger off, never to be seen again.
I guess once it stops being full of people who want to look at the AJAX and fills with people who are playing the game, it’ll improve.
The server did slow down when we got 4k hits from techcrunch in a few hours. Our battleship didn’t sink, but we are thinking of upgrading our hosting plan:) Thanks Michael for the review.
Sure sam, even though you liked my review the least.
It couldn’t be us, as you brought SMS to life
. It might have been our server.
