Since I'm into business development myself tech crunch offers me a great way to keep a tab on the pulse of the web 2.0 world. What's cool is that there are so many web 2.0 start ups that could offer incremental improvements over the way we currently look at marketing communications such as within the customer references space alone. Keeping tab of these start-ups with Tech Crunch is a great way to keep yourself informed on the benefits you can create for your own marketing program. Tech Crunch Blog link Tech Crunch's RSS feed link Favorite web 2.0 startups for marketers, as profiled on Tech Crunch: Squidoo-Seth Godin's Purple Albatross, Improve yourself with Mecanbe, State of web 2.0 (a year ago - 2005) Hope these 3 links were of help.
[...] I saw this: Improve yourself with Mecanbe over at Tech Crunch and my first impression was WOW! I need that. There are a number of improvements I have been thnking about making in my life and the thought of having somewhere to track them as well as a group accountability method really appeals to me. I have, in the past, kept track of some of these things on my whiteboard but this looks like a much more full featured application. [...]

Yes, it's a cool tool that will appeal to a very tight niche, but it won't make any money and will fade out just as soon as it fades in.

Interesting if they can integrate with gCal and backpack/tadalist. Makes me wonder, when will google make their own to-do list w/ gCal? Anyways, can't wait for an invite to test it out.

Hey, I want to thank everybody for there positive feedback and/or critique so far.

Basu – Mecanbe has a built-in calendar application. We also plan on providing for exports and feeds to all the favorite calendar apps, both online and offline.

Mike – this is that start of a color war (or colour war if you are Australian).

SMan – You got it! That’s already on the cards! :)

Simran/Mike – Let me try and explain why Mecanbe represents a significant tool for personal and team-based goal achievement. You see, all of us have lots of goals - but how many of us can honestly say that we achieve them. I am talking about real quality of life stuff, like building a better relationship with our kids, even spiritual or religious goals, building communication skills, or even maintaining an exercise regimen for six months. Success in these areas are often more elusive.

So how does Mecanbe help me? Well, there are 2 fundamental ways that Mecanbe adds value to my offline, self-development effort:

A) Mecanbe not only enables me to get my goals down in (digital) writing (which in itself can be a meaningful exercise), but it also ensures that I will review my efforts and rate my performance periodically. I am also able to follow charts of my ongoing progress. This truly provides for an inspiring and rewarding self-development experience.

B) Mecanbe motivates me by creating a social impetus and supportive framework for goal achievement – a sense of community, and the ability to work on goals with a partner or small team. I may be able to achieve a goal of getting to the pizza shop on my own, but successfully quitting smoking, or working to constantly improve my relationships, for example, are more difficult when I am on my own. I am also much more likely to stick to a goal, and conversely, support a goal if my effort is made within the framework of a personalized relationship.

Thanks again and any comments, suggestions, or feedback are always welcome at info@mecanbe.com.

As a business trainer, coach, and consultant, absolutely love the idea! Hopefully this will be one of a long string of technological innovations that gives people tools that will help them get where they want to go.

Many people will still get a lot of value working with a live coach, but this is a great supplement. And, for others, this may be all they really want or need!

Great review and article. Thanks!!

I wish that they took some of the features from the Franklin Covey Plan Plus into this. That application would be perfect for the web.

I prefer green.

Anyway, I signed up for the BETA just to test the product. I find that I get everything done with gCal and Ta-Da Lists, I don't need another website telling md what to do and when. I'll eat that Pizza if I want to, stay out of it you blue website you!

Btw, promote the story on Digg <a href="http://digg.com/technology/Improve_yourself_with_Mecanbe" rel="nofollow">here</a>.

Interesting. Nay, Fun! Self-improvment made fun, how about that?

I am very curious to see how this app is recieved by professional coaches around the world, and how (I am sure they have) this crowd has been considered in thier business model.

Personally I believe that Mecanbe are on to something here. One aspect user value that is seldom brought up is what the application does for you when the computer is shut off (yes there is a button for that to). What makes this site interesting is that it does the majority of the work when you are not logged on (horrible thought ;-).

Kind regards,
Anders
