Google Trends Launches

Google Trends launched today. It’s another analysis tool (and a good one), that allows you to see how often specific search terms are being entered into the Google search engine.
Up to five terms can be compared. And you can also view queries that contain either or two terms, using a vertical bar “|”. More advanced queries can be done as well - see the FAQs for details. Google also puts markers next to major news events that are about that search query, helping to explain surges. Data can be sorted by time, language, geographic location, etc.
In testing it I’m finding it works well for very highly searched terms, but terms that are very rarely searched show no data at all. Seeing trends on even obscure terms would be useful. Even so, Steve Rubel says Google Trends is “a must-bookmark for every PR person and marketer worldwide.”

I’m a bit disappointed by the whole thing. Not about the power of the tool, but the the lack of interaction, no fancy sliders and form elements. The page needs to reload to often in my opinion. Hope it still expands
This looks just like Google Finance, from the label to the news section. You can actually link the image to your site and see updates.
Cool tool. Is it beta?
>Cool tool. Is it beta?
This time Google use “Google Labs” on the logo instead of saying it’s beta.
The image link has an extra w in the front.
Could this have been inspired in part by Indeed.com’s Jobtrends graphs?

I guess it would be quite interesting if, besides reporting on search terms popularity, Google Trends also reported web sites traffic like Alexa does.
Google certainly has the resources and the info feed to do so. Their toolbar must be much more popular than Alexa’s own (remember, the data for that kind of analysis comes from the toolbars). Their rankings could be even more accurate than Alexa’s.
Google Co-op is also up now. Check it out.
It would be great if the site actually loaded. I am happy to say however that I got my Google Analytics invite today which I am totally stoked about.
Waited 8 months for it.
Nothing too amazing to me.
Great tool although occasionally double meanings of words can catch you out.. i noticed that you can use the ‘-’ operator to exclude words so for example i did a search on “googe -shares, yahoo -shares, msn -shares” just as a test and it seems to work. The reason I did this is because all the news items seemed to be about shares. Not really that useful in this case but i’m sure it could be useful. I could see an API being very userful for history style mashups.
funny search : good, evil
football search:
david beckham, ronaldinho
It IS a good start - archiving relatively less popular terms might have put a drain on their resources.
It is good to compare this term with the Overture Keyword Suggestion Tool

People search for “google” on google? (oh, the where am i crowd
)
“Their rankings could be even more accurate than Alexa’s.”
Heck, the numbers you make up in your head are more accurate than Alexa’s.
Now I’m waiting for the mashup that lets me see Google Trends with Google Finance so I can compare AAPL with APPLE COMPUTER or IPOD. Although searches for IPOD seem to be trending down.
This is actually great… Could be very useful.
Shocking statistics. Who would have thought.

A pretty cool toy that is very useful in marketing and trend analysis.
Could be really cool and the fact that it highlights possible relevant news stories is a really interesting add.
Its missing something that seems like a critical element the quant gurus at Google would be proud of - what the Y-bar is in a numerical sense. Google also highlights, “Google web searches to compute how many searches have been done for the terms you enter…” so its a view of Google search traffic and not the web’s which may or may not be statistically relevant. If Google could provide some stats on how it is, that would be cool.
Like Alexa.com, when web traffic is reported in a relative fashion, its a good directional tool, but not laser sharp since marketers need to measure quantitative traffic to understand ROMI, not relative traffic to see that you’re beating up on someone else.
Even though the google trends tool is a bit immature, it’s power to anyone who is marketing oriented is amazing. I am sure that in time it will grow and add many more features that we will like and depend upon. to read more about this go to http://ohad-news.blogspot.com
It’s fun to compare terms with this great tool: Madrid = Prada, London = Gucci. San Diego = Burger, Rome = Spaghetti
That’s a very clever app! Someday it will make money for sure. That’s something only “rogue scientists” can create.
The article links are oh so outdated …. (Anyone listening at Google) .. it’s better not to have them coz most of the articles have been removed!
Guess google cant seem to stop from introducing new things, cool anyway

You know this is a direct result of that subpoena the federal gov’t handed out to all the search engines. They said they wanted the data for general pedophile trends; now the feds have all the data on a silver platter…without handing over trade secrets, or personal data…..Brilliant!
There’s also http://buzz.yahoo.com
Whell, the idea is very cool. I like everithing at google!

Beloved,
I know this letter will come as a surprise to you, but i would like you to give it a to consideration so as to help me and my family from our present predicament.
I am john peter, the first son of Mr Berney peter, a British Farmer based in Zimbabwe. My father is now dead as a result of his incarceration by the Zimbabwean Government under President Robert Mugabe who ordered the white farmers in Zimbabwe to vacate their Farm Land and go back to their country.
But my father, due to his large investment in the Farm Land refused to quit Zimbabwe for his country. Based on this reason he was arrested and imprisoned and as a result of his protracted sickness [Diabetics] he died in Manfe prison
on 19 sept 2003. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
After his death, all efforts by my mother who is a Zimbabwean to secure most of my father’s investment was frustrated by the President Mugabes Government. Towards this end my mother discovered a trunk box containing the sum of $9,000,000.00 ( Nine million U.S. Dollars) which was owned by the White Farmers Association [W. F. A],
which my late father was the founder/President with the help of my maternal uncle who was a Comissioner in Zimbabwe.
We are able to move the trunk box from Zimbabwe to Democratique Republique of Togo [R.OF.Togo] where the box containing the money is presently deposited in a security trust company, declared as Family Jewellries and Antiquities as to avoid raising any eye brow from the authority here. All documented proofs in respect of this deposited consignment are in my pocession.
As it is, I am looking for a reliable partner who can help me safe-guide and
invest this money very prudently as advised by my mother. 20% of this money will be given to you while 5% will be set aside for miscellanous expenses tha we may incure during the process.
Also note that this transaction is 100% risk free, you may also be required to come to Dubai if need be on indication of your intrest. Please confirm your interest on this transaction and contact me . I am presently in Dubai [U A E]. Hoping to hear from you soonest.
Thanks and God bless,
John Peter,
Try searching for “franchise.” The most popular city: Alphretta, GA. What the hell is in Alphretta that wants info. of franchising so badly?
Google trends says “Google is bigger than God”.
