Myspace has created an oppurtunity for dozens of websites that I love! They all have web 2.0 technology and defy and break the standard which most websites have been built on. My favorite is mytuneslive.com. You can upload mp3 files, and then put a flash player with your customized JPG image on myspace! You can take songs from other users as well and its all LEGAL!

It rocks!

[...] Flickr, by the way, definitely punches above its weight in the photo category when it comes to attention v. relative size. It’s a distant 6th compared to other sites with about 6 million U.S. visitors each month and 80 million or so page views. Compare that to Photobucket’s 13.8 million monthly U.S. visitors and Yahoo Photo’s 11.2 million (no. 1 and no. 2, respectively, in the photo category). CNET’s Webshots is also slightly larger than Flickr, with 7.6 million U.S. monthly visitors. (source: Comscore, June 2006) [...]

[...] Secret Sauce: photobucket says it has the largest number of users, bigger than flickr and YouTube = the total number adds up to more than 15 million. The company also reports that two million new users a month sign up for the service. They attribute this large number to “ease of use and reliability.” Conent is moderated = no porn (almost, it’s hard to keep track of more than 1 billion images.) Company plans to employ 30 people in Iowa (which some say is “practically India”) to moderate the content. Business model is ads and premium subscription ($25/year for 5 gigs of storage) and image printing (paper, tshirts, posters and mini-books). Seen and Heard: According to calculations based on overall Internet traffic in the US, photobucket funnels two percent of that traffic. Uploading 4 million images and 30,000 videos a day. Impressively, 60 percent of all MySpace profiles have at least one piece of photobucket content! (That number was confirmed by Jason Whitt of Vantage Point ventures). CNNMoney writes: “Another company, PhotoBucket, is making a name for itself by allowing people to upload photos and videos and copy links to the videos to social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook.” [...]

[...] I read this artice on techcrunch. It says that photobucket has 2% of the U.S internet traffic. By reading the comments you it seems like a lot of that traffic is because they host photos to MySpace. I the comments I followed a link to a post about feeding the MySpace beast. It mentions that MySpace was a major driver of YouTube and has a link to another post about that. [...]

[...] I really like Mike Arrington’s story on how Photobucket gets 2% of US Internet Traffic. Founded in 2003, it’s really a great low-key, low-profile, utilitarian "silent killer" startup. It has a great flanking strategy by hosting photos that nobody wants to host. As a result, I believe its strategy was to achieve economies of scale in bandwidth by hosting as many photos as possible. It’s timing was also fantastic, starting up in the "darker" days in 2002/2003 and riding on the boom in blogging. It’s one of those startups that can really enjoy benefits from Gilder’s Law, Moore’s Law and ever cheaper costs of hdds.
