Maya’s Mom - For Parents

Like previously profiled Minti, Palo Alto based Maya’s Mom is going to be a great collaborative/community resource for parenting. The founder, Ann Crady Kennedy, previously a corporate lawyer at Wilson Sonsini and later at Yahoo, has a landing page up to collect emails from interested people. The company is named after Ann’s daughter, Maya.

If you have kids, make sure you sign up.

Interesting fact: Maya’s Mom is now headquartered in Flock’s old offices in downtown Palo alto, along with Dorrian Porter’s hot new mobile startup Mozes.

It is great to see that Web 2.0 sites for parents are on there way as they are greatly needed. The current sites out there that provide baby / toddler info are stale and rely on website published info rather than user participation.

Please launch soon - we are coping with the new arrival of baby number 2!

AS a new parent to be and an applications junki, I hope this will be better than minti which felt more geared towards techies than towards parents. Web2.0 functionality is cool, but not in place of good old fashioned usefulness.

When will web2.0 release something specific for say 2 year olds, pets or even the insect world? My opinion, not long!

I wanted to add a note about the reason I’m creating this site.

The most valuable information I’ve learned in my years as a parent has come from other parents. I created Maya’s Mom to provide a trusted place for parents to find and share information. The site will be useful and practical, but will also have a sense of humor about being a parent…it’s for parents who are more than their minivans. I hope you check it out.

If you have thoughts about what you’d like to see, post here or send an email to ann@mayasmom.com.

Good idea, horrible name! Change the name … too ‘personalized’ already. There’s a story behind many products, services, but you don’t see them all named after the founder or their children, etc., do you?

In some cases, you can pull this sort of naming. In this case, no way.

Not having checked either, but knowing about the nature of the sites, I’m already biased towards ‘minti’. Even changing the name to ‘maya’ would be better than maya’s mom!! (of course, you cannot since it’s already registered … just making a point).

It will be a success on many levels. Can’t wait to see it live.

In response to Kaveh: I respectfully disagree. Look at Wendy’s. Named after the founder’s daughter, with a friendly family image with the late founder as the focal point on the public face. Why can’t this be the same way? Even better, the site won’t make your kids fat ;-)

We recently launched a web application geared toward new parents. Trixie Tracker allows you to track your child’s sleep, eating, diapers and more. It’s a helpful and cool new way to understand your baby’s daily patterns and needs.

Hi guys — quick comment here from Amiglia.com. We’re happy to be listed in tandem with TrixieTracker and Minti in most blog postins on Family2.0

Really looking forward to seeing how our category grows together, and to check out MayasMom when it launches

Michael — we’d love a review on what we have so far!

    Cheers

As a hobby, Maya’s Mom is a great site. As a public resource for silicon valley soccer moms, Maya’s Mom may morph into a good site. As a venture with capital producing potential, I just don’t see it.

Hi everyone, just stopping by to let you know that my wife and I launched our site http://www.efamily.com this week. Any help you can provide in getting the word out would be great. Digg has over 1 MM posts on its network, we don’t have that much yet. However, we are assuming that there is great content on the 100 million domains that exist on the Internet. If you can help sort through the billions of Internet pages to find the most relevant family content, we would love your help. Let’s tip the world towards goodness and truth. Thanks in advance. David and Nicole Hosei

One more thing - sorry - please pass this URL around to parent bloggers, companies that target families, etc…

    http://www.efamily.com/efamit/.....ntent.aspx (+eFamily / Add to eFamily.com)

This link makes it easy for your visitors to share and rate your content at eFamily.com, straight from your own site. Basically, this will help broaden the reach for your content/products/services and strengthen our network.
