Is there a site where you pay a one time fee and can burn entire cds of an artist without a per song burning fee? "bear share" site is good as you see pictures of entire cd's and with one click can download the whole cd at once but it costs.99 per song

I'm still waiting for ultimate, online, music store:
1) sells DRM-free music in a popular format (mp3)
2) sells by the song
3) legal in the US and compensates artists properly
4) sells the songs from artists I know

As far as I know, one or more of these 4 factors eliminate every online music store.
1) eliminates just about every online store save emusic and the Russian stores
2) eliminates the purchase of physical cd's.
3) reeliminate the Russian stores
4) eliminates emusic

A legal music site is that which does not think that a singer ought to sing a song one time and earn a lifetime. If you say that's ok, than perhaps those who tar the roads ought to tar one time and earn a lifetime (via a toll from those who use it) It's time we synonymise 'legal' with 'justice'.

Tunebite is legally because it rerecords protected audio and videos while playing with high speed. No crack, no hack of DRM copy protection - that´s cool.

tunebite costs 20 bucks? And are you sure that it is fully legal? Cause if so, I'm off to have it and get rid of all these problems of not being able to play my mp3 on iPod...If I understand correctly that's what it does, or?

I have to say, that Napster trial account and Tunebite is the best way to go. Kazaa doesn't seem so reliable anymore.
With my solution I got a lot of music with almost no investment...just the 20$ dollars for Tunebite

I wish someone, somewhere would rate these 100% legal download services on actual quality - apples-to-apples. (I'm not interested is shady Russian-mafia operations or other illegal services).

Here is my suggested benchmark: Quality of the track once burned to CD, compared with the original commercial CD recording.

My guess: iTunes would be near the bottom of the pack. Their CD's sound awful to my ear. I don't know if it is their download quality (128 bps AAC is NOT a magic bullet and is NOT demonstrably better than current-codec WMA at the same bitrate), or their crappy decoder to take their marginal-at-best 128 bit music to CD audio. I've tried Wal-Mart - no better, no surpries, same bit rate. I'm now experimenting with Napster and its 192 Kbps WMA. We'll see.

Vince (post no.32)

Good advice. But even better to download a cracked torrent of the latest tunebite software. Then subscribe to a free trial of one of the subscription services with DRM protected material and download all you want during that period. Then convert with tunebite. Tons of music, for free. Happy days!

Difficult one, download the cd, if it's really worth it, buy it on cd. An mP4 at 320kbps "CD Quality" still doesn't match the actual cd sonically, it's a small aural difference, there's more detail/depth and frequency response, it's worth it for the best albums.

[...] I have got a heap of the Ministry of Sound Chillout albums which contain a good variety of these mixes. Infact I have been downloading them from a great ‘legal’ website call AllofMp3. Theres been a lot of discussion in world news about this website however to its ‘legality’ but its still up and running so I advise you to go check it out, when compared to other popular sites for music it defiantly tops the list!
