[...] Seen and Heard: Personal Democracy Forum’s Micah Sifry just interviewed Evoca’s CEO, after discovering the service’s use in an Ohio political campaign. Mashable still likes Evoca, saying, “Evoca is a really solid service, and it’s one of the easiest ways to get a voice recording on to hi5, MySpace, Xanga, Piczo or your blog.” TechCrunch noted that Evoca’s sound search feature “uses speech recognition to recognize search terms in sound files, and is provided by Podscope. Finally, users can set a price for others to listen to a file, and proceeds will be sent out monthly via check. Evoca is clearly an ambitious project. The main issue is whether or not they can get and stay ahead of Odeo and become the brand people think of when they want to record and share audio files online.” And Robin Raskin called the service “the bomb,” saying, “For those of you in the audio-know, think of Evoca as a stripped down version of GarageBand or Audacity, but totally web-based. For the uninitiated: You will be recording audio and saving it to the web, then if you like, sharing it via an RSS feed or embedding it in your application—in under 10 minutes. In essence you’ll be podcasting without even giving it a second thought.” [...]

soobrosa, I'd be curious what you think of how we at hipcast.com (formerly audioblog.com) handles this. We do just those things you mentioned, I belive. In fact, that's one thing you probably won't see amongst the hype of our competitive brethren...We're the anomaly in the audio and video podcasting space having been the only world-class, *stable*, and unrivaled in features than anyone else in the market in two years. That's just the uncool thing to be. :-)

I'm really astounded by the general unusability of these services. (And I MEAN Odeo AND Evoca.) Uneasy metaphors, illogal workflows and all the tipical ill-ITed/engineered thinking. Anyone at these companies who ever been at least ten feet away of a radio station???

Being a radio-savvy person (work done at commercial stations) I thought that I can easily compile a playlist of
- my voice recorded,
- songs hosted by others,
- songs uploaded by myself
and I can incorporate a player into my site. (No downloads allowed, no copyright infringement paranoia.)

Sorry guys, radio automation softwares rocked you ten years ago. It's not all about Ruby, icons and fancy (but not needed) features.

None of the above mentioned services could fulfill me. Any ideas?

Work's just perfect!
So easy to use and you get good quality results.

I think that in the welcome page, Evoca need to place the recording player much more upper because you can see it only by scrolling the page down..
