Nice Article.
I have been working on social community website.
I want to bulid some application which can be integrated with Salesforce.
Suppose I have built an application (using PHP) that takes salesforce username and password on my website and then login into Salesforce. I just want to know how can I upload this PHP file into the Salesforce.
Thanx in advance.

Cool Stuff.
[...] What is most interesting to me at the moment is Web 2.0 in businesses apps, I had the early preview of the latest news from Salesforce and I am really excited about the possibilities that Salesforce presents to developers and integrators. I am hoping to be able to write more about Web 2.0 business apps since Techcrunch and Web 2.0 in general has been very consumer oriented to-date. [...]

[...] In my post on Techcrunch about Salesforce I noted that the online calendar space is very crowded at the moment and that perhaps some of those development efforts should re-focus on the business market particularly with easy channel to market that AppExchange offers and potential for good and more immediate returns. Tonight Mike got the scoop on Gcal - the Google Calendar that will be tied in with Gmail. The post from Mike has detailed screenshots of the service that show that Google has actually implemented something that looks like it could be a winner. [...]

[...] Posted by Karthik Hariharan Fri, 10 Mar 2006 03:11:00 GMT I've often told people that the future of ERP lies in hosted solutions like those provided by Salesforce. ERP and CRM implementations cost companies a lot of time and money for solutions which often provide limited customization and complicated maintenance agreements. Salesforce alleviates a lot of that headache by hosting web-enabled CRM solutions so that their customers can have customized implementations without the maintenance headache or the long costly licensing agreements that come with products like SAP and Siebel. Tech Crunch reported earlier in the week that Salesforce has created a new developer community complete with Mashups for PHP, Ruby on Rails, and other Web 2.0 technologies. This will be called their AppExchange community. Its a big win for the Ruby on Rails community to see a software vendor provide support through a toolkit called ActiveSalesforce. The article talks about many exciting new Mashups that utilize AppExchange to connect Salesforce to Google Maps, Skype, and others. I am excited to see what comes out of having a major software vendor acknowledge and support the Web 2.0 space. [...]

[...] Today on TechCrunch has an exclusive coverage by Nik Cubrilovic on Salesforce business mashups. AppExchange is the application platform of Salesforce, which includes a large number of application. Of course, it includes applications that can talk to your Outlook and other standard known applications. But the news today is that writely has been included within the AppExchange platform! Other applications that were added to it is also Adobe online PDF generator (which I recall works only for US users), Skype and Google Maps. [...]

"...but because they have 399,000 users who are already paying Salesforce at least $65 a month each. A fantastic audience to target".

I could not agree more.

Good job on this review, Nik. There are a lot of exciting things happening with Salesforce.com. As "Web 2.0" products continue develop, they will become fortified enough for the enterprise business community and we will see the "Business Web" take off. Right now there are a few good ones (Skype, Writely), but it's only the beginning. I am exited to see the Writely one. Also, thumbware.com has created 2 good ones that to integrate Gmail and del.icio.us with Salesforce.com. Both free.

this is actually a good piece of news, it validates the fact that software isn't cookie cutter/one size fits all anymore. Now with these tools, i imagine a sea of niche crm tools popping up.

Alwys appreciated when Salesforec gets a shout out. There's so much focus on the consumer web, that the business web sometimes gets lost.

Jonto I heard Jason say in a podcast once that they are building a CRM app that would be a competitor to Salesforce so that may be the reason why. My opinion of that statement I will reserve for now other than to say the opportunity of developing on Salesforce is huge - not only because they have 399,000 users, but because they have 399,000 users who are already paying Salesforce at least $65 a month each. A fantastic audience to target.
