Maxthon 2.0 Beta has been released. It works best with IE7 and while it is incomplete, it has some sensational features and is quite stable. It's worth taking it for a test drive. http://beta.maxthon.com/feature.htm

I've been using it since MyIE2 in 2002. My default browser on every PC. Very fast and very secure. And on my Mac, I prefer Opera to Firefox which I've since removed.

Maxthon is great - faster and not a memory hog like firefox, and with better features then ie7.
Also if I wanted firefox to have the functionality of Maxthon, I would need to find and install lots of plugins tending to make firefox unstable.

The internet is designed for the most popular browser, IE, so like it or not, Maxthon delivers most web sites the way they are designed to be seen and IE7 with SP2 is a pretty safe a stable engine to be based on.

As it has so many features though, you need to be relatively technically astute to gain all the benefits and understand how to use all the aspects , so user who are less so may need to stick to ie7 (or firefox if they have sufficient spare memory) .

LOOOOOOOOL, the web is built on standards, standards ARE necessary it's not about commercial things like betamax.
Anyway, IE render engine is one of the worse ever, gecko is way much better...

I like the speed of maxthon, but stopped using it and went back to Opera because it started freezing up everytime I used it. To each his own if you like it.....use it........if you don't then forget it and go back to what best suits you.

Oh please, please, please... stop these steriles and endless arguments about what is true and what is not.
IE not secure ? IE not standard ? Firefox better ?

Security:
I have been using Maxthon since the very first version, and I daily go to all sort of websites for my job (not all being.. well, you know.) And I have never had a problem that my antivirus and security programs could not handle.
For driving I dont count on my car maker to avoid accidents. Same thing when I go on the web, period.

Standards:
What are standards ?
Rules that should be followed if the world was perfect ?
Or things that are really out there ?
Look at ANY webserver logs: IE 85% Firefox 13% (May 2006).
Whose standard again ?
Reminds me of VHS vs Betamax...

Usability:
Firefox is much more usable than IE ? True.
Than maxthon ? Not so !!!
Firefox comes nearly naked. Finding plugins, installing them, and then updating them every other day is a bore.
Maxthon has all I need right after install, with optional plugins on top.

The finishing stroke, loading time:
IE 3 seconds
Maxthon 4 seconds
Firefox 15 seconds

Game over.

Been using Maxthon for probably a year and a half. I've tried FF ( nice but takes to much memory ), and Opera ( no complaints ), and a couple of others but always come back to Maxthon. My favorite feature is groups, and my favorite plugin is roboform ( infact it's the only plugin I use ). As for security, I've never had my virus checkers show an alert.
Of course I'm a little fanactical about security ( I manually add sites I trust to the trusted zone, and everything else is in the internet zone ( set to high security ). I would do this with any browser. More work yes, but I don't worry about infections at all. Use a good software firewall and antivirus, and for god's sake keep your machine's patches up todate and you shouldn't have any problems either.
The user community support aspect is great.

Well, I'm a web developer myself and I've created plugins for both Firefox and Maxthon. What I can say is that Firefoxes javascript and DOM engine is a lot buggier than Maxthon's and memory management in Firefox is a lot worse.

I'm also a power user and I try to minimize the effort I put into browsing: less mouse clicks, fewer keystrokes. For this purpose, I try to get the most out of any browser, and I heavily use both Firefox and Maxthon. Firefox for some special things where I need heavy security and Maxthon for everyday browsing. At this one, Maxthon without any plugin has the same functionalities as Firefox with about 10-15 extensions installed. But Firefox with 10-15 extensions is a memory hog, unfortunately...

On the security, now: It's true that Maxthon with IE6's engine has some security problems. And regardless of what some may think, Maxthon actually repairs some of IE's security flaws: remember the phishing problem IE had? Well, Maxthon didn't have it. Firefox has, of course, fewer known security problems. But Maxthon with IE7's engine has none known so far. I often wander on creepy sites which try to take control over your browser and install things on your machine. The biggest problem (actually I think it has a 99% rate of occurence among all the security issues) is that javascript and Activex are enabled by default in IE and therefore in Maxthon. Firefox can't run ActiveX and it has that beautiful NoScript extension which is so handy and keeps you secure. Of course, Maxthon and IE have those options too, but it takes a lot more clicks to disable/enable javascript and ActiveX controlls.

Just my 2 cents
