Get Concert Info + Music at Podbop
by Michael Arrington on February 16, 2006

Podbop launched today, and for music lovers it may be the most interesting mashup we’ve seen yet. They’ve combined concert events from eventful and mashed the data up with band sites that include downloadable music.

The result? search for any city in the U.S. (hopefully this will soon expand to become a worldwide service) and get results (including RSS for future events) that include all upcoming live music and links to download music supplied by the band. If the band has no music available, Podbop will show a blogdigger search for that artist along with the eventful data.

Here’s the best part. Subscribe to any search (Los Angeles, CA, for example), and the MP3 files are included as enclosures in the RSS feed.

The service is new and data is limited. But look for this to be a cult favorite. And if they release an API, look to see Podbop’s data mashed up with other services, too.

In the meantime, I’ve subscribed to the San Francisco feed.

What’s the trend for personal entertainment centre? iPod or PSP?

Great Site. But some cities do not have context

Cool idea for a mashup. Looks like they nicely integrated the music with the site and feeds. Seems like search is pretty limited to just the feed from the whole city, might be nice to allow a more custom feed.

PS- I believe the post incorrectly spells the service’s name as “Podhop” instead of “Podbop”

Alexadex doesnt trade .org

its good advertising for the bands too becuase its getting there music and concerts out and the rss is a nice touch too

another good idea is to add zip codes and give an image of the band itself

Very cool indeed, but what’s the business model?

Glad to see my favorite labels represented .

And it does appear that smaller metros get no love.

Sounds a bit like GarageBand…

what’s the business model

Get enough people to your site by focusing attention for live-music lovers… and you’ve got a nice pool of people to advertise to.

There was plenty of data for Orlando. I definately plan on using this service from now on.

Would be nice if clicking on one playback sampler would stop the other ones, but the side effect of it not doing so is some rather interesting mixing between different band styles. A bit odd to have Flogging Molly playing against someone of a different genre.

Michael,

You neglected to mention that Podbop uses EVDB’s API. Come to think of it, you’ve neglected to cover EVDB or Eventful since you started TechCrunch.

Coincidence? What’s up with that anyway?

Why no link love?

Brian: I wrote “They’ve combined concert events from eventful”. Sorry if you feel that is factually inaccurate or if I have failed to properly cover your company.

Sorry Michael, my bad, I didn’t see the eventful mention in the original post. But my main question stands — how about a review of Eventful and EVDB in TechCrunch?

Imagine me humming “On the cover of the Rolling Stone” . . . . :-)
