Sorry Michael, my bad, I didn't see the eventful mention in the original post. But my main question stands -- how about a review of Eventful and EVDB in TechCrunch?

Imagine me humming "On the cover of the Rolling Stone" . . . . :-)

Michael,

You neglected to mention that Podbop uses EVDB's API. Come to think of it, you've neglected to cover EVDB or Eventful since you started TechCrunch.

Coincidence? What's up with that anyway?

Why no link love?

[...] Hearing a buzz around an artist and searching for MP3s on P2P services, having a band ask to be your friend on MySpace, and now a new service called Podbop (see the TechCrunch review here) that aggregates MP3s of bands playing in your area soon, and includes them as a podcast feed all have something in common. I would like to call this audition marketing of music. Auditioning, just like in the old music business model when a band auditioned for a label to be signed to or for a venue in which to play. This time, it is directly to a perspective fan. [...]

There was plenty of data for Orlando. I definately plan on using this service from now on.

Would be nice if clicking on one playback sampler would stop the other ones, but the side effect of it not doing so is some rather interesting mixing between different band styles. A bit odd to have Flogging Molly playing against someone of a different genre.

what’s the business model

Get enough people to your site by focusing attention for live-music lovers... and you've got a nice pool of people to advertise to.

Very cool indeed, but what's the business model?

Glad to see my favorite labels represented .

And it does appear that smaller metros get no love.

[...] Wow, PodBop (found via TechCrunch) is the first mashup I actually bookmarked and intend to use. You choose a location, see a list of shows for each date, then can play MP3s for each band playing. The only thing I could ask for would be for the site to also list venue / cost, that about covers the factors deciding whether I’d go to the show. [...]

Cool idea for a mashup. Looks like they nicely integrated the music with the site and feeds. Seems like search is pretty limited to just the feed from the whole city, might be nice to allow a more custom feed.

PS- I believe the post incorrectly spells the service's name as "Podhop" instead of "Podbop"
