Who will be the first to release an ajax interface for customizing blog templates?
And speaking of Google rumors, exactly how long does it take to create an ajax calendar to integrate into Gmail? Everyone else has done it already.
Don’t know if you have seen it or not, but BloxPress seems to be trying to do something like an AJAX interface for customizing blog templates. The only difference is that here the user, rather than the webmaster, is in control. The way a user configures one site using Bloxpress can be carried over and automatically used on any other site also using the Bloxpress theme. Personally I think this has great potential, allowing for users to easily filter out elements that they don’t care about across multiple blogs. In addition it seems that creating themes with Bloxpress is not too difficult. I’ve been watching it for a while, unfortunately development seems unbearably slow. But it definitely has potential.
Let me get this one in before Mr Scoble. Isn’t MSN Spaces actually a pretty good example of blog customising via Ajax?
This space is very interesting. I think there is room for an actual web-based editor to be used by street people to create full small sites (say a site for an hotel and similar needs). Maybe version 1.0 of current site builders (which are useless). Do you know something interesting in that area?
The fact that they still haven’t implemented a simple calendar makes me think they are working on something unique and innovative. Google doesn’t want to follow, it wants to lead and crush their non-innovative competition.
Lot of sites are trying to do this. It would be interesting to see how google does it differently even though they have started late at this time as well. I hope they ll not disappoint.
I believe calender is in the offing very soon… It would be great to have gmail, googletalk and calender linked to each other on the web and on desktop.
From what I can see they are trying two different approaches.
1) Pushing processing and application to user via google desktop
2) keeping client lite and doing everything on the web.
what would be great to see is tight integration of google desktop and web interface. (I hate to say it) Like microsoft does it with outlook on your PC and outlook webaccess.

But seriously… I dont know if there is much mileage in google creating ajax blog editor. I agree with SimonD though, MSN Spaces is albeit not very customisable but the most ajaxy blog editor out there.

I’m with everyone else… Calendar, now. I doubt it could be as nice looking as HipCal, but I bet it could be just as functional.
Well I think if they’re going to start creating online Ajax editors, they should offer it as a web service so that any and every startup can implement the editor. Application components becoming web services anyone?

We’ve had an ajax drag-and-drop interface for customising blog templates inside Blogware since its first beta release in 2002. It needs some updating now four years later, but I think it meets the standard of first, or very close to it

I’d like to see a Google Calender integrated into Gmail. But somehow I doubt it is going to happen. It is too much like following suit.
Hotmail/Yahoo Mail have calenders (and crap ones at that) built into their mail client. I have a feeling that Google are going to make it separate. Hopefully they wont though.
Yeah, no kidding, you’d think they’d at least have it out in beta form by now…same goes w/ the windows live team, they’re working on a new ajaxed calendar for the live mail but am surprised we still havent seen anything…these companies have plenty of resources to throw at this stuff yet, it’s the small startups who are putting them out in no time…i don’t get it.

OK, they have implemented hosted email today, right so what does organisations need along with hosted email? they might need integrated calendaring services, so now it’s time to wait and watch
Real question is, how long does it take to start a rumor ahout google?
I started creating an ajax editor for creating dynamic websites nearly a year ago. We are launching in a week or two but we have focused on providing customized solutions for specific industries. There are also already quite a few others in this space such as squarespace and bubbler (not ajax). I beleive our appproach will be unique in that we focused on building a rock solid, scalable platform first, and then added customized components for specific needs in different industries.
I wouldn’t be suprised if google is up to a bit more than blogging… having users input structured content directly into their index would make searching the data a whole lot easier. I suspect google base will have something to do with this. If only we all had the resources google had…
Yup, I’ve been using SquareSpace and it’s far better than other AJAX Web-builders… very easy to use, neat, eye-candy experience and I’m sure it beats GooglePages in all aspects !
