I am very pleased to announce a new TechCrunch Network blog - MobileCrunch. MobileCrunch is being written by long-time “mobile” blogger and entrepreneur, Oliver Starr. Oliver just left his current blog, the very popular The Mobile Technology Weblog, to join me.
Oliver Starr is a serial entrepreneur with experience in technology, wireless and fiber optic telecommunications, mass distribution, e-commerce, biotechnology and alternative medicine. He’s also an Analyst and Associate Venture Partner at Angel Strategies, a Venture Capital Fund managing over $300M in assets as well as the CMO (Chief Mobility Officer) and a Director of Business Development for Web 2.0- company operating in stealth mode that is due for a major launch in the coming weeks.
Prior to MobileCrunch Oliver was the author of The Mobile Technology Weblog which he grew from 250,000 hits per month to over 650,000 hits per month with 2.5 million unique visits through the end of 2005. In addition, Oliver has been contributing articles to publishers on and offline for almost 2 decades. His work has appeared in scientific journals, health magazines, sport-specific publications, and much to his chagrin, been widely stolen, and even plagiarized all over the World Wide Web.
The reason for MobileCrunch? The mobile space continues to take off and it needs quality bloggers to cover the space. I do not have the qualifications or time to properly write about it. Having a mobile all-star like Oliver on board to share his thoughts is a wonderful opportunity, and of course I jumped at the chance to work with him.
The feed for MobileCrunch is feeds.feedburner.com/Mobilecrunch.

Congrats on joining us networks
I’m looking forward to it.
Congratulations, Michael! Oliver Starr is a real star! He really gets the mobile stuff.
Going to be another great crunch site…
Also well done Michael on reaching 100 pages http://www.techcrunch.com/page/100/.
Suh-weet.
Brilliant. I’ve been looking for blogs that tie together Web 2.0 and mobile - this is great.
BTW: I noticed the tagline is “Exploring Mobile 2.0″. For some bonus ego points, I’d like to point out that I was using that phrase back in September 2005, and hence claim my rightful place as the Father of Mobile 2.0:

Please send the royalty payments to Pete Cashmore at Mashable. Thanks.
May I suggest a link to MobileCrunch on the TechCrunch page?
Our Web 2.5 blog discusses the fusion of web 2.0 and mobile tech, but with emphasis on mobile *servers* instead of clients…
Awesome.
Suggestion: Keeping with the common format of the 2 blogs, the header for MobileCrunch is Italics and for TechCrunch it is regular.
Excellent! TechCrunch ROCKS, and if I’m going to have a Mobile version for all the hot mobile pages then Excellent!
Mike,
a big congrats on your expanding endeavor! No doubt MobileCrunch will help bring more sanity to the chaos out there with respect to all things happening in mobile/wireless. Wishing you much continued success!
Very clever idea! I like how you are building up the “Crunch” network! Keep up the good work and I will just have to add MobileCrunch to my RSS reader. Mike
This is very clever. A blog network is definitely the right move. Look forward to reading more crunch blogs.
Pete, let me know where to send the check, as I used mobile 2.0 when announcing the future home of The Mobile 2.0 Workgroup on Charlie Schick’s blog after he suggested adding mobile bloggers to the web 2.0 workgroup.
A friend actually chided me on an article from July 2005 where I used the term moblogging 2.0 to describe mobile initiated and consumed blog content/media. The cheeky fellow started calling me Debi 2.0.
If only THAT were possible.
It all goes to show that an orignial idea is nye unto impossible anymore. Just last month during an IM chat I described a mobile app to a friend which I jokingly called moviefone+. This week that very app was launched by Zingy/Vindigo called MovieGoer. The app is very well done, and I love using it.
Awesome! Good job Michael! It is real nice when people write domain-specific blogs! Terrific to have a one-stop shop for information, as Techcrunch is for Web2.0!
You should stick to something you know.. What the hell are you doing venturing off in to the mobile handset market.
Why don’t you start with the new and upcoming 3g network.
Let’s see it Michael
err…ok
i’m surprised there’s not more telecom-related blogs. http://www.telecommer.com was the first and only to tackle the entire telecom industry sky, rather than individual clouds like broadband, TV, or moblie services. They all relate now, and are sold together.
