[...] There may or may not be a Web 2.0 crash coming, as Steve Rubel has predicted, but there’s certainly blood in the water, with Yahoo’s earnings miss, Gather.com’s bad reviews, the demise of SearchFox, and the gathering buzz about an impending crash. Steve thinks a key factor is that “online advertising isn’t growing as fast as we would all like to think or hope” — online advertising is still on a steep upward curve, but Steve’s probably right that there’s not enough to go around, and the market will have to get rid of the Web 2.0 chafe.
[...] Allthough Yahoo managed to increase their profits by 80 percent, they were unable to meet analysts expectations and promptly suffered a 13 percent drop in their stock value. Couple this with the demise of Searchfox and the blogosphere is abuzz with speculations on the crash of the Web2.0 [via Micro Persuation]. While there is no doubt that the whole 2.0 thing is overhyped, there has been a tremendous amount of innovation last year, which produced a lot of lasting values. I hope nervous investors will understand some day too. Technorati Tags: searchfox stock web2.0 yahoo [link] [...]

I used it intensively, and I feel bad for seeing it go. IMO, way superior to Bloglines, Newsgator and some others I tried.

I'm now looking for a replacement, but this time I'm looking for a solution based on LAMP to put it running on my machine.. It's a pain having to switch aggregator every 6 months. :-\

Well, I am at a loss. Searchfox was the only decent online RSS news aggregator I found and handled the huge number of feeds I was subscribed too. Does anybody have any ideas of a replacement?

The market needs unique offerings not an offering that already exists in too many forms. I appreciate what companies like searchfox offered but all that comes to mind is "who cares?"

[...] I’ve used Searchfox every day since Sept. when TechCrunch did their first review of it. This is a service that worked well and did what it was made to do, be an RSS reader. Last night I had loggen in to see a message that they would be shutting down. Not having time to write in my blog I sent a quick email to Michael @ TechCrunch to see if he had heard of this and maybe if he had any other info. Seem I and one other had sent him the scoop.I now have to find another RSS reader, it needs to be online so I can access it from anywhere. One thing I would also like to see in a reader is a “parkinglot”. Many times i’m doing a quick scan of new articles but don’t have the time to blog about it. throw it in the parkinglot ot to be blogged area and pick it back up in a couple hours. I will be trying a couple different RSS readers in the coming weeks and will be adding a review. Technorati Tags: RSS Reader, Searchfox, shutdown, TechCrunch, Web 2.0 [...]

Sad to see it go, but is ironic, I JUST moved over to netvibes, and with good timing as they have shutdon. Searchfox was great but took too long to load for me and that's why I moved. Anyone moving from Searchfox should try out netvibes.com
