Scott Lake’s Shopify, based in Ottawa, Canada, has been threatening to launch for some time now (the site still says it will launch in the Fall of 2005). It promises to solve many of the woes associated with selling online today, with solutions for hosting, design and integrated payment options:
In fall 2005, Jaded Pixel will be releasing Shopify 1.0! Shopify is a hosted e-commerce solution that removes the traditional barriers that have kept many individuals and small business from selling online. It is a Web 2.0 product that focuses on providing buyers and sellers with the features essential to completing e-commerce transactions. It is simple, elegant and desperately needed.
Whenever it launches, I’ll be looking forward to checking it out. The Shopify blog is here. Sign up for launch notification here

Coming from a company who uses merch to make profit (see the blog), we’ve been eyeing shopify and allurent for a bit as potential solutions for our shopping cart issue.
out of all the new service oriented architectures coming out, I think e-commerce, especially storefront and shopping interfaces are sadly being neglected. We have enough launch and start portal products, enough file transfer, and more than enough image sharing. Why only two (that I know of) revolutions for the actual experience of BUYING.
@Ethan: what’s the other company that is starting a revolution in online buying?
Hi all, I just wanted to stop by to let people know that we have just started posting the first screen caps of Shopify’s management screens. You can access them from the Jaded Pixel Blog link that Michael has posted above. As well, thanks to some great work from Justin Palmer, we have also just launched a new design for the Shopify page. If interested, you should check both out.
yes Ethan what is the other e-commerce company?
thanks
Wayne
i think ethan is referring to allurent, based in cambridge, usa:
http://www.allurent.com/
their product utlizes more flash with a mix of ajax, it looks. and appears to be more of a consultnacy than a turn-key sign up solution like shopify’s. but the product demo videos do look interesting.
