I finally got “You Send It” to work

I never wrote about You Send It because I could never get it to work. Well, today I had my first positive You Send It experience, and so I’m writing a quick note.

If you haven’t heard about it, you can use it to “email” very large files. You upload the file to the site, tell it the email addresses to send the file to, and the recipients receive a link that allows him or her to download the file. The maximum file size is 1 GB.

You cannot send multiple files in one email, but you can send a zip folder. Only a free version of the service is offered, which allows a single file to be downloaded 25 times over seven days. Oddly, you are allowed to send a file to up to 50 people. I guess only 25 of them may download it.

This is a good, free service that would have made my “most loved” post last week if I had been able to use it before now. I’m glad they are working out the kinks in the service.

    SendOver.com is another new services that allows upto 2GB, but I liked yousendit more, maybe for its consistency over the months.

    I must say, I used this service a couple of weeks ago, and it worked perfectly - about 10 files, all larger than 50MB.
    In fact, I don’t know how i would’ve finished my work without them…

    i was using this service back in 2003 when there were no services like yousendit.
    even today 1gb storage for free is a lot (and of course u have not to split your large files)…

    Why don’t you just use DropSend? I haven’t had any problems with it yet and it doesn’t have as many restrictions for free accounts.

    I have used sendover.com and it is horrible. I had a huge file fail after about 4 hrs. of uploading TWICE and its downstream is weak compared to other free services.

    I’ve always used YSI with few problems, partly because I worked on the first design. However, I’ve Alain Smitheed myself from this project because there are better solutions out there and because we didn’t see eye to eye on a few things… in short, this is certainly no Web 2.0 company.

    I used to use YSI because there were few services like that at the time and also because I was involved in its first design. However, I’ve Alain Smitheed myself from the project because… well in short, this is certainly no Web 2.0 company and there are more worthwhile services out there.

    I would recommend Pando (www.pando.com/beta) for filesharing more than you send it. It works faster and is much more reliable. It’s in beta atm so it only allows the sending of files that are a gig but it is planing on extending when it gets out of beta.

    I’ve been using YouSendIt for a year and it’s never given me any trouble. I was happy to find it after using Dropload for a while and being frustrated at it’s limitations.

    What exactly is web2.0 about yousendit? This site has been around for years. They dont even have a realistic upload progress bar.

    We’ve been using YSI on a Phish forum for a while to trade single songs/videos and haven’t had any problems, although the 25 dl limit has reared its ugly head a few times.

    I also sometimes use it to send large disclosure packages to potential property buyers.

    Pretty decent service. Does the trick, but it’s not the end all.

    It amazes me that anyone would operate a service like this when the barrier to entry is zero and there are so many competitors. In addition to the standalone services you can use free email to send large files up to (gmail is 10mb) and I would be willing to bet that most of these large file transfers are under 10mb.

    On the other hand, you could run a service like this off surplus bandwidth you may have and no staff so it could be a nice little cash flow business assuming you can generate enough traffic to support an ad-driven model.

    YouSendIt is now in a business relationship with Zango, also known as 180Solutions, the ADWARE/CRAPWARE people.

    I refuse to support any company selling itself to the devil.

    Too bad YouSendIt has decided to stoop so low!

    Why not just use http://www.x-ess.com they offer free hosting for files (zip,rar) , movies, mp3 and photos… all in one place! :-)

    Or you could just use Dliveo, its free and has no limits at all. Spyware free, spam free, private network. You can even track your sends, and the sender/receiver don’t need to be online at the same time.

    I tried using yousendit last night and it was like watching paint dry as i waited for the little bar to

    tick…
    ohhh…
    tick…so very slowly across

    ..it got to about 13% and i couldn’t stand the wait any longer..hehe..
    It was a quicktime file, not sure if that makes any difference.

    “yousendit” The Adware killed it for us.

    We’ve been using yousendit for ages and was about to join as paying customers when I was alerted to the fact that some of our customers may not be ‘paying users’ therefore would be subjected to one of the most intrusive Adware’s we have come across.

    We have had to run anti spyware and do a complete shutdown to get rid of the bloody adware and its effect on browsers the last two times we used it.

    Lost us. We are trying http://www.dliveo.com at Michael’s suggestion.

    YouSendIt.com sucks! The ads are way too annoying! I’ve started using a new service called http://www.YouSwap.com and so far it has been great. It allows you to send multiple files at a time (upto 1GB). and it’s fast…best service I’ve seen so far!
