Do your research. I run the company. There isn't a snowball's chance in hell that we'll be able to generate enough revenue in the next few quarters to stay in business. I admit, i fucked it all up.

Boltfolio is a great site, and remember its in Beta status at the moment. Ive been testing it since its release and its great. They are listening to the users, making adjustments and working with us for the benefit of all. The unlimited part is unlimited over the life of Boltfolio, not all at once, and there will be in the future a paid version to allow more uploading per month, etc.

Useless? I don't think so. Is it better to have a player that works everywhere with some bugs or a player that works just on one OS?

Even if a conversion or a bug fix isn't possible... an hybrid solution is surely a better alternative, even in this case. ;)

Regarding flash-based media players: Macromedia's Flash plugin has a bug, resulting in it only being able to play audio files encoded in a multiple of 11.025 KHz. So 11.025, 22.050, or 44.1 all sound good, but rates like 8KHz or 24KHz sound like chipmunks (or nothing at all).

This happens to effect lots of audio, rendering the Flash player option useless in these situations.

Folletto, I believe they are moving to flash. I think flash is great, but I'd also like a way to allow people to download the files...

Seems like a 100meg/month limit, which is kind of small if you want to upload video.

Michael,

I should probably add that BoltFolio comes from the makers of Bolt.com - an absolutely huge youth hangout (4.5 million users, I'm told) - and it appears to be aimed at that audience. I also called it a "flickr of everything" in my post, but I think the crucial difference between BoltFolio and the latest crop of flickr-wannabes is that the Bolt guys are targeting a specific audience. They know this audience well, so I'm predicting this will be a fairly successful venture. More here:

Michael

"What I like best about Boltfolio is that they have unlimited storage.."

Looks like for the videos there are limits both for file size (max 50mb each) and usage:

"Your File Limits and Usage
Account Type:	Limited
Monthly Limit:	100 MB"

Luistxo, you might want to have a look at allpeers.com

They say they will soon release a Firefox extension for p2p sharing of audio and video.

Somehow the whole interface doesn't look convincing to me, messy and very much 'flickr'ite. Hope this matures.
