[...] 6. Rich Media Chat Web cams and microphones have been on the web for a while, but the growth broadband, VOIP standards, and mainstream incorporation through services like Skype, Google Talk, and Yahoo! Messenger have expanded their use in chat programs. Skype and Yahoo! support calling to land lines and mobile phones (Skype is free until the end of the year). PalTalk creates voice chat rooms that can host conversations between thousands of people together at once.
Hi Mike,

I once sent you a link to a cool app I like and you said you won't write about it because it's not web 2.0 (although it has user-related features, tags, ajax, ...)

hm, now I'm wondering what's web 2.0 about skype except that it's version 2.0 ? :-)

Best regards, Nader

I understand that they cannot support video for the other operating systems all at the same time, so I expect that video will come soon for mac (and for linux too, I hope). What I dislike is that they're using this "windows only" video compression technology. This may doom the video release for other platforms.

Skype is the latest in a series of companies embracing a teenybopperish upgrade path -- Weemees? -- while shunning enterprise applications and potential Office-killers. Outlook integration is a good example. Sure, people are talking about the death of e-mail as a collaborative tool, but no one seems to be doing anything to make any of its alternatives as versatile.

<a href="http://www.sixapart.com/comet/" rel="nofollow">Movable Type</a> moved in much the same direction. Instead of moving towards a more robust platform for community enterprise blogging, and beginning to challenge low-end CMS vendors, instead they decide to become another 360 or MySpace.

A shame that it's windows only. But I don't have an eyesight yet, anyway. Anywho, I hope the developers over at Skype HQ now have enough time on their hands for a 'record'-button. You have any idea how much of an effort it is (using virtual sound devices and such) just to record a skype call?
