New Companies Will Be Built with SSE
by Michael Arrington on November 21, 2005

Wow, am I excited this morning to see Microsoft announce Simple Sharing Extensions (SSE), which turns RSS bidirectional and which is released under the Creative Commons License. I wrote more about this at CrunchNotes, but I want to mention it here because this is an incredibly important technology that will allow entirely new classes of companies to be built. Dave Winer’s excited too.

bi direction rss.. droool.. reaaly this is a great eice of tech then. And CC licensed.. now THAT’S cool. very good news

This probably would be great for creating discussion feedback via RSS. But if that happens, what will Riff do?

Hi Mike

Certainly put’s the pressure on RSS vendors… (ourselves included :-)

with Google Base, SSE, etc a whole host of new opportunities are possible

Fergus

Newsgator watch out! Now all we need is an rss reader that’s able to top feed demon.

It’s a good idea, for sure. As far as “companies being built on the back of it,” I imagine the first one depending upon it will be MS itself. It wouldn’t have come out if it didn’t solve a problem they were currently having. One wonders what those might be — there are obvious applications to things like Outlook calendars, etc, but maybe there’s something larger coming in Live.
