Skype Video within 30 days
by Michael Arrington on November 18, 2005

Strong rumors are afoot that Skype version 1.5 with video will be launching before Christmas.

They are clearly behind the schedule announced in September at VON Boston, which anticipated v 1.5, with video and other features, in October.

i dont think that skype with video is sucha a great idea, there is expected to be quite a bit of video lag making conversations akward. also, when my network interviews someone, i dont want them to know im in my pajammas or whatever casual im wearing.

I’ve been hearing the same thing. We’ve got a bunch of soldiers who are planning on using Skype during an upcoming year-long deployment to Iraq, and the news that Skype Video is coming down has been a great thrill for them.

all i know is that ever since ebay acquired skype, the quality of the service has been horrible. has anyone else noticed this? i can’t imagine adding video is going to help.

There has been plugin to do this, it’s called v-skype or something.

But I don’t us it, I could agree on first comment with this - you don’t want to see people in the morning or evening. I also don’t see a point with video during the day - mostly business conversations don’t need this.

Also, why do you think videophones are not around? It’s just misconception. This is maybe funny for teenagers, but otherwise pretty useless.

May I ask what was that Riya launch party for? I don’t see Riya launching anything yet.

Thanks.

I used vskype until it became festoon. Now I’m using Spontania4IM but I’m not really satisfied.

An integrated feature is nice for those who have family and friends around the world that they rarely see. I think there is a place for it for some users, but I want to know if it will be free or fee-based!

dude, skype just got ripped up a bit in an article that challenged their security limitations - suggesting that it is entirely not suitable for corporate use - though many small and mid-sized businesses are embracing it…seems like video might offer some bait to larger business groups, a step toward more free web-ex style utility with fewer and fewer user requirements…

Video for Skype or video for “Microsoft Windows” Skype?
