Hey, you don't have to worry about the new Expiration Date requirement if you set up an account over at SingleFeed -- we fully support the expiration date and make sure that it is always present, always valid (30 days from today), and make sure your product feed and any updates are submitted EVERY DAY -- with an accurate and always live (30 days from upload) expiration date.

Please, come try us out for Google Base, and you can also, using the same feed, set up for product submission to many of the other popular shopping engines (shopping.com, shopzilla, nextag, etc.)

[...] The Online Dating market is a flourishing one that can also be very lucrative. There are various dating community websites, some more established than others, Yahoo! Personals and Match.com being the most established with a combined user base of 9.3 million unique users per month. The websites are mostly free, though some charge a premium to communicate with members. Yahoo! for example charges $25 USD per month (Match.com offers a basic plan at $30 USD per month). Now, these websites mostly rely on revenue from advertising, and with page views generating in the billions every month, a lot of money is at stake. Advertising guru Google has also noticed these trends and has jumped on the bandwagon by introducing Google Base which is free and better since it is easier to match yourself with persons who share the same interest as you do. You can learn more about Google Base here. Learn more about the dating website space and other companies competing for market share here.
I personally believe (actually I know- Google don’t have a choice) in 2006, Google will dump or minimize web crawling/search all together and build on this ‘base’ model. Google has to obsolete the over-celebrated concept of ’search’ if they want to stay on cutting edge.

[...] SomewhatFrank.com has some more info about edgeio. They seem to use Structured Blogging to do classifieds from within blogs and hence trying to attack craigslist or Google Base, etc.. Ok, this is what everybody expects. Much more interesting is Frank’s source of the information. It’s coming from a Archimedes Ventures, a venture company. And the blog of this company is: TechCrunch!
[...] Google Base has a lot of problems. The big one for me is that is another centralized content play, when all of the really interesting content is created at the edge. Jeff points out some other issues with Base, including the fact that the data is not only centralized but there is no API for non-Google search engines to access the data. [...]

As it stands, Google Base looks, to quote a profilific blogger who quoted another blogger, “like a 1985 dBASE file with less functionality. It’s ugly.” […]

All Your Data Are Belong to Us

Googlebase has launched. Everyone is wondering what to do with it. Some people fear it will be a spam haven and horribly abused. Some people think it is like dBase and dull dull dull. I think that Googlebase is amazing.

How does Google intend to deal with the signal to noise problems endemic to any normalized data submission engine? Is there a reputation system?

I love the idea of truely normalized data on a massive basis, but without some bidirectional feedback, it is nearly useless.
