I just heard about songbird, which should be launching in December. I have very little information on it currently.
Whatever it is (client? Web app?), it looks like a music/podcast player of some sort and it’s certainly visually appealing. More (perhaps) on this later. You can sign up for Songbird announcements here.

Now this application looks to be something exciting and well worth generating buzz. I wonder does it have the ability to profile your local collection. Probably not, maybe a security concern.
It’s a web based itunes for all audio.
Hence the ripoff of the itunes interface.
You wanna try profiling, try MusicMagic Mixer, the best ever!
Going up against iTunes,Rhaposody and Musicmatch who have licensing deals with the recording industry and a subscription model. Better have an A-Game!
If they have a subscription model or co-brand distribution arrangement, they have a chance. If not, then their product/service may reflect their logo, which appears to be a bird that went through a taxidermy.
It seems very similar to Streampad (streampad.com), an online player that “interface and integrates with many other web services” created by one of the developers of Del.icio.us.
I was gonna say, it looks JUST like iTunes… what’s the big deal.
Just saw this myself and gotta say, I’m impressed. A surefire graphic rip of iTunes, but if its suitable as a webapp then all the better. Possible streaming of everyone’s music collection? Allowing me to create playlists on your site from your music…. sounds pretty interesting!
It isn’t online. It’s based on Firefox.
It’s obviously a blatent rip of of JRivers Media Center

What about songbird is visually appealing? I’m just not seeing it.
