I think Facebook is a really bad idea. It really entices people to become stalkers.. literally. Facebook can also create very awkward social encounters.. For example, say you meet someone for the first time (and you know nothing about them) and later on that day, you look them up on facebook, and find out all this personal stuff about them... the likelyhood is, is that, you probably feel like a stalker.. because you took the time to dig into their personal life and found out all this stuff about them that, they may or may not have wanted you to know! and so it makes it awkward, b/c the next time you see them.. you know all this stuff about them, but they don't know that you know (unless you told them, which, could be awkward..) so then it makes you feel bad, but.. its not like you can "reverse the past". I actually had something happen to me.. where I found out about a person's thoughts about something that happend between us, through his blog and the only reason I found out, was because.. I looked him up on facebook. After I found out what he wrote about me, of course I felt bad, but I also felt like a huge stalker. So.. take it as a lesson learned.. maybe the world would be a better place if we just went back to the way things were, where, you meet people and, you get to know them by, spending time with them, not by.. looking up their profiles on the internet. What has the world come to?

Does anyone know the most recent stat's for the use of facebook by students?

The filter system for the school in which I work has recently blocked facebook and the students are trying to get this revoked, but I think that they need a bit of statistical evidence to help back them up.

The article at the top of this page would be great but unfortunately I feel that at it is a bit too out of date to do much good.

Can ANYONE help!?

This whole talk of Facebook being bad for kids is rediculous. I'm on Facebook more than one time a day. I don't smoke, drink, nor party. It beats MySpace by a mile, only people you choose can view your profile. It's not like 40 year old men get on there and are looking at little 12 year old, unless they add them that is. The only way Facebook could be bad for kids is if they are adding people they don't know, and therefore that makes it their own fault if they get in trouble. I'm addicted to Facebook, and don't care who knows it, it's not bad for me and I'll keep doing it no matter what other people think.

facebook seems reasonable. when you request a network though, how do they verify it's real? do they actually contact principals/headmasters?

I used facebook throughout my whole college life. Unfortunately since they did their new update I have lost a lot of interest in it. It seems like they added a whole bunch of useless junk in it that it just making the site look cluttered. I found a site though that is kinda like facebook. It looks like the way facebook 'used' to look if any of you were fans of the 'old' facebook, and it also allows you to upload videos, which I don't think facebook offers support for. Anyway, here is a link for it:
