Technorati Aquisition Rumors

A post today by B.L. Ochman ignited rumors that Technorati may be acquired in the near future:

Technorati About to Be Sold

Here’s a tip I was given this morning from a venture capitalist who is “heavily invested” in the blogosphere: Technorati is about to be sold to a large search engine company. The deal should go down in about a week.

My bet is on Yahoo! Where’s yours?

True? Wild speculation? We have no idea. Sure are a lot of acquisition rumors this week though.

Is this story (”Murdoch is Set to Buy a Search Company”) related? It looks like we’re not the only ones seeing the connection.

Update: Jeff Jarvis says “I’m seeing rumblings that it’s not true.”

IF Technorati is really bought I would somehow bet on Murdoch. While I’m not really happy about this it could at least help financing faster servers ;)

My bet is that Google will be the likely buyer as Technorati’s leadership on Microformats has the potential to greatly improve collaborative knowledge gathering and creation. Additionally, microformats could become infinitely scalable with higher order effects depending on the adoption curve. These are both qualities that Google loves to see.
And I didn’t even touch on the blog search side of the business…

I agree, although the Murdoch angle is interesting (see the last paragraph above “Additional Links” above. The fact that the two stories came out at about the same time makes me wonder…

I’m still betting on Google and the longshot of IceRocket. I’m not counting Mark Cuban out of this!
