[...] I’ve looked back at some of the milestones, always marked with a blog post. Six weeks after the beginning, we had 500 RSS readers and I decided it was time for a redesign. Fred Oliveira, who’d previously criticized my design skills, came in and built a great new look for the site (see it here). [...]

[...] The site grew slowly at first. I remember my excitement when I first reached a number of RSS subscribers that was higher than the number of feeds I read daily. When TechCrunch hit about 500 readers I realized the crude design was holding it back. I hired Fred Oliveira to redesign the site. Clearly, a cleaner and more usable design was a good thing. Readership continued to grow. [...]

[...] This website is very, very funny. I’m not allowed to make normal postings today because Fred is still working on the site and he’s demanded that (i) I start using Photoshop for images, and (ii) I write only “standards based postings”. :-) [...]

A couple of notes to those that might be reading these comments: There's still a lot to be done in terms of accomodating old content on the new layout, mainly because reworking a blog with the number of posts techcrunch already has usually takes 1/3rd of the time designing and developing and 2/3rds of the time finetuning for old material.

This being said, there will be some quirks on these first couple of days on the new looks. Some content will probably look plain bad - but you can count on a great looking Techcrunch with great looking content once this final stage of adaptation is completed.

There will be a post on my personal blog with a little more detail on the why and how for a lot of aspects of the site, so you may want to keep an eye out for that.

Glad to be a part of techcrunch. These are exciting times.
